Walcott for Sturridge – deal or no deal?

A few days ago it was reported that Chelsea are lining up a bid for Theo Walcott, some sources even claim that the west London club may look to swap unsettled forward Daniel Sturridge for the Arsenal winger in the summer.

It is a deal which at first glance looks appealing to a lot of the Arsenal faithful, because the truth is Walcott has been operating at the same level for a couple of seasons now and hasn’t improved enough. In addition, with only a year left on his contract, do we really want to risk losing Theo for nothing?

On the flipside, Sturridge has risen to prominence in the last season or so. His loan spell at Bolton last year propelled him to where he is now, a starter for Chelsea.

The England Under-21 international has bagged 9 league goals and 4 assists, as apposed to Theo’s 3 goals and 7 assists. Now it’s not all about the stats, you have to look at what the player brings to the table. Both players are known for their pace, so I doubt we would lose that in Walcott. The only real benefit we get, if this deal goes through, is Sturridge is primarily a striker and isn’t afraid of shooting.

Now this rumour took me a little by surprise, why are Chelsea lining up this deal? What would they benefit from this transfer? And then it hit me. When Sturridge signed from Manchester City they placed a clause in his contract that if Chelsea sell him then City would get a 15% cut of the transfer fee, so making it a straight swap, as opposed to selling him straight up, would mean good business practice for the London club.

Perhaps Chelsea are hoping to bring the best out of Theo. Personally, I would see that as gamble, but if they do pull it off it could bite us in the arse. However, with how Chelsea have been playing it is a big IF.

What do you guys reckon on this proposed deal? Would it be a good one for Arsenal to pursue? Do you rate Daniel Sturridge over Theo Walcott?

Give us your thoughts on the matter.

Like your articles but I will no longer be visiting this website. Way tooo many advertising content and not enough Arsenal news. Plus whats with the adverts starting automatically when I haven’t even clicked on them? Cheating to bump up click rates?

What a knob-ish thing to say

I actually have nothing to do with the adverts running on the site andy and too say that there is not enough Arsenal content is unjustified. It’s also pretty sad to say that you won’t be reading the content just becuase ads pop up – takes less than a sec to get rid of it.

Yes, we need another goal scorer, and Walcott is a flop we need off our books

oh come on, we dont need to sell all these players, we cant just shuffle all the time just at once. in adition if walcott want to leave it cant be to chelsea, cause we all know he is well talented but it is the mentality he have due to this high pressure on the team and him.
i say: Keep walcot and buy sturredge, since arshavin is gone anyway.
sturredge can be a striker and a winger, then why not keep both.
we dont need to do the adebayor mistake again.
