Perhaps its time for Wenger to step-down and for this man to takeover

30th September 1996. This was the turning point for Arsenal in terms of future achievements. The Evening Standard’s headline at the time read ‘Arsene Who?’

15 plus years and everyone knows who he now is. But you can’t help but ask ‘Arsene Who?’ today, as he seems to be a shadow of his former self.

He’s built teams in the past that combined the accumulation of silverware with a desire to entertain and attack, though criticized for lacking a killer touch. The departure of David Dein in 2007 was a huge blow for Arsenal and possibly the first sign of real trouble as he used to help Wenger acquire the players the Frenchman wanted. But since Dein’s departure, Wenger’s spending power just dwindled.

Wenger’s greatest achievement, spearheading the construction of The Emirates Stadium, which was supposed to be a new era of success, the type of stadium that gave Europe’s biggest teams the message saying ‘hey, look at us we’re good enough to challenge you.’ But as seasons wore on, all Arsenal ever seem to be fighting for now is a top four finish, the ambitions you expect from a mid-table club. People will say look at our good run, we’re playing so well, then bang, pathetic run sinks in, fall out of a number of competitions and then all we’re left with is ‘hey, at least we finished fourth’, which just isn’t and will never be good enough for a team looking to once again dominate English football.

Yes we have stood up to Europe’s elite, but every now and then our lack in depth has cost us greatly. Our style of play has all but disappeared. We no longer play the kind of football where all our players switched positions so well it was seamless. They were so confident, consistent and capable. But now, such feats are only pulled off once every four games or so.

The banner which reads ‘In Wenger We Trust’ can still be seen at the Emirates today, our faith in the gaffer never in doubt. But come on people, let’s wake up and smell the coffee. Its time he left the seat of power and passed it on to someone else.

I like Wenger, but his attempts to rescue the club and win silverware have proved futile as games pass by. We’ve come close, but almost don’t count.

Now I guess the question that will be on your mind now will be – but who do you think will take his place?

Well there is a fairly simple answer to this. He’s arrogant, stubborn, bad mouths his opponents at times and has somewhat of a bad disciplinary record. I’m sure you know who I’m talking about by now. ‘The Special One’, Jose Mourinho.

The former inter Milan boss has won 18 trophies in total, all be it at different clubs. Every club he manages has lifted a trophy in his first or second season in charge if I’m not mistaken. He’s a manager who never seems to be committed to a long-term deal, but his knack for success is exactly what we need. What he can give to the club is exactly what it needs to regain the status it once had and not the big-teams whipping boys we currently look like.

Many may read this and think I’m a glory hunter for wanting someone to come in and push the team on to win trophies. Truth be told, when a top player joins a team, or a manager comes in, he wants trophies, proof that the club will go far and not just mess about and say ‘we’ll get them next season’.

Le Professor has been brilliant for us. Everything he has done for us will never be forgotten, you simply cannot take away from him what he has done for us. No one can. But we need to be winning silverware and progress.

Mourinho wants to leave Real Madrid, he’s said it himself. A return to the Premier League looks likely, so why not take him in at the end of the season? Wenger could work behind the scenes as one of the guys up top and could push the board to spend a little more.

To be honest, I never wanted Mourinho to manage our Arsenal, but he can lead us to something we have not seen in seven years, silverware. The Arsenal players who left the club from 06’ onwards will all notice one thing, the trophy cabinet hasn’t changed one bit and a change in manager could be the difference!

    Tactics And Players
    Have to change:

    I have no way of getting my own artical on this website so i hope people read this:
    Arsenal need a new formation to start with one striker is not enough, at the moment we play a 4-3-3 formation however RVP is the only striker. The formation we should adopt is a 4-1-3-2,This is what the formation would look like a much better attacking threat and wil the wide men sitting deeper it will call for more attacking runs down the wing rather than just standing high up the pitch being smuthered by defenders;

    ,,,,,Gerv,,,,,,,,,,,,Chambo,,,,,

    But with the summer transfer window coming this is what Arsenal FC could potentially look like now we’ve got £55 million to spend and some players to sell;

    If & i say: if WENGER has to step down they will bring some one who no one would hear of to replace him it might take a decade who knows!!!, likewise the players who brought them to the club, no one would even have little knowledge of them, then all of us WILL rush to see them in YOU-TUBE & if we knew them it would be a marathon bargain
    ( ARSHAVIN, even chamak ,gervainho OXY, MERTESACKER, ARTETA 2 YEARS BACK,,LITTEL CAMPEL ETC ETC…all of them drain our brain to see them in RED & WHITE SHIRTS ) there is enigma in this club (WENGER + HIS BOARD) NOTE THAT the word HIS BOARD.

    Moronho? An egotistical one man show who needs 100s of millions of $$$ to get a team a period of brief success before buggering off somewhere else after getting found out?
    Yeah that’s a fantastic idea

    No chance for any one to come in but WENGER : because he wants to destroy his castle.then some one else can step in & try to rebuild from the scratch.
    last season but not this one & next season would be close::: HAZARDS was close,, so & so was close. to me close was clueless. in modern world i wouldn’t appreciate the word close. either you’re ready for it or not but not close.
    GUNNERS meant to go & hit the target with efficiency & power but not close.

    Not perhap,”This is the TIME, for him to step down. 6M salary for this kind of mediocre manager with 7 years trophyless achievement is unacceptable.

    Arsenal are second to none and we want a Champion manager like Mourinho or Josep Guardiola to lead us to next level.

    Continue having Wenger is a waste of money and testing the patience of fans

    Enough is enough
