Not a bad move for Wenger to pursue but there’s one better to be had

Arsenal are weighing up a summer move for Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon, according to The Sunday Express.

The national newspaper reports Arsene Wenger is considering a bid of around £20 million for the Benin international at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old, who joined Sunderland from PSG last year in a £6 million deal, has played in every Premier League game so far for the Wearside club, bagging 6 goals and 7 assists along the way.

Wenger is eager to ease the goal-scoring burden off Robin van Persie, who has netted 22 goals in 25 Premier League appearances, is considering offering £12 million plus Nicklas Bendtner, currently on loan at Sunderland, for the services of Sessegnon.

Undoubtedly we are in need of a striker to help out Robin van Persie when the Dutchman is not firing or, heaven forbid, he picks up an injury – we simply can’t rely on Marouane Chamakh!!!

Would Sessegnon be an astute signing for the Gunners this summer? I think so.

The winger/striker already has Premier League experience, is very direct and possesses pace and a lot of stamina. His goal scoring ratio could be slightly better (roughly one goal every four games), but considering it’s his first season in the English league and playing for a mid-table club like Sunderland, it’s not that bad.

Is the proposed £12 million plus Nicklas Bendtner bid a good one to offer? I would say it’s a clever one that would kill two birds with one stone.

I personally don’t see a future for Bendtner at Arsenal and £12 million isn’t a huge a fee to part with in Wenger’s book.

Sessesgnon wouldn’t be a bad buy for the Gunners. However, I would debate that there are better strikers out there for Arsenal to consider. Lukas Podolski is a prime example of this.

FC Koln have reportedly slapped a £12.5 million price-tag on their prized asset. However, with his current deal set to expire in June 2013 there could be room for negotiation. The striker has also recently hinted that he may look for a move away from the Bundesliga side after being lied to by the club he joined back in 2009.

Let me put it to you like this – £12 million plus Bendtner for Sessegnon or £10-13 million for Lukas Podolski? I know what deal I would chase up.

Thats just rubbish. Who would pay £20million for that player? Ridiculous.

Well if you read it properly it says £12m plus Bendtner, not £20m upfront

Still rubbish that anyone can even consider that Sessegnon is worth 20M? He’s a decent player but for that kind of money you can buy a player like Moussa Sow who is so much better or even Daniel Sturridge who has been the only striker at Chelsea worth anything.

I’m not disagreeing with you, more of £8 million man IMO. I think we should be targeting better plays than Sess. Podolski would be a great signing for us!

he is a talented player and would fit into our game. he should therefore be a useful back-up for rvp. he is notwhat we need however. t
o either make viable replacement for an absent rvp, or to become the henry to rvp`s bergkamp, we must buy a podolski , giraurd or sow. there are only a few of the required calibre and few of these are available. rw must buy one these few – no matter the cost.
