Haven’t we seen this before?

Well this pursuit of Robin van Persie from AC Milan looks like replicating that of Barcelona’s for our former captain Cesc Fabregas.

Milan president Adriano Galliani recently expressed his admiration for the 28-year-old, who is yet to commit his long-term future to Arsenal with only 16 months left on his existing deal at The Emirates.

Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and centre-back Thiago Silva have both, in their own way, urged the Dutch striker to quit Arsenal in the summer and join them at the San Siro.

Now it’s the turn of his international colleague Mark van Bommel, who is the latest Rossoneri player to back the club’s quest to sign the Arsenal captain.

The 34-year-old Dutchman reportedly told Il Giorno:

‘Van Persie is a great player. He has plenty of quality and he would be a massive signing for Milan.’

Now I don’t mind players/managers expressing their feelings about fellow professionals, it happens and is nice to see. But what I don’t approve of are clubs trying to unsettle players, especially if it’s one of ours!

All of these comments are totally unnecessary and could be perceived as unprofessional by many, and come at a time when the Dutchman is contemplating his long-term future at Arsenal.

If they want to try and sign our captain, then they should at least have the decency of waiting until the end of the season to do so.

We are at pivotal point of the campaign and need to focus on a top four finish. We don’t need these distractions at this time and want Van Persie to continue his fine form until the end of the season.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this will be the last we hear of AC Milan being linked with RVP.
