Arsenal forward wants Sociedad stay

|

So Carlos Vela recently confirmed that he wants to stay at Real Sociedad after his loan spell with the Spanish club ends, rather than return to Arsenal. Kudos!

The Mexican told El Diario Vasco:

‘I would stay at Real. I am happy and the people support me.

‘I owe Arsenal affection and gratitude for the opportunity that they gave me, but I was not happy there and this affected my work.

‘It was hard day to day and, when it came to training, I was thinking about going home. Here, however, I am happy and have made good friends.’

Regarding a potential permanent move to Sociedad, the 22-year-old said:

‘It is too early to talk about these issues, but I do not close the door to Real. But, if you cannot reach an agreement with Arsenal, you cannot do anything.

‘As I said, I’m happy here and would like to help the team stay up. Then we’ll see what happens in the summer. Right now, we cannot do anything even if we wanted to.’

As we all know Vela has struggled to establish himself at Arsenal since his arrival from Guadalajara in 2005, managing to date 64 appearances – most of which have been in the minor cup competitions and as a substitute – and netting 11 goals for the north London club.

The Mexico international has previously been sent out on loan to Salamanca, Osasuna and West Brom in order to gain first-team experience. However, Arsene Wenger once again decided that another temporary move away from the Emirates for the striker was best. He joined Sociedad on a season-long loan in mid August and seems happy to be playing regularly, already making 18 appearances (14 as a starter) for the La Liga outfit whilst bagging 3 goals and 5 assists along the way.

As much as I admire his technical ability and style of play, it would seem that Vela’s time at Arsenal has come to an end. As much as I would like for him to stay and try to establish himself at Arsenal I just don’t see it happening, and think that it would be best for him to seal a permanent move away from the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Do you agree with me? Should Vela be sold in the summer?
