Andrey Arshavin will remain at Arsenal beyond the Russian transfer deadline, according to the forward’s agent.

Phil Smith insists the 30-year-old Russian will stay at the Emirates, as there have been no formal offers made for his client:

He told Sovetsky Sport:

‘We had no official offers for Arshavin.

‘The club said it wants to keep Andrey, he insisted he wants to remain here. So, in my view, it is out of question. I wouldn’t expect any news on this matter until the summer.’

Anzhi, Lazio and Zenit have all been linked with the Russian international in recent weeks, but the Daily Mail reports that the Arsenal forward wants to rejoin his former club Zenit and will wait until the summer in order to do so.

Despite such a promising start to his Arsenal career, Arshavin has found himself out-of-favour at the north London club.

The disgruntled Russian has struggled to feature on a regular basis for the Gunners this season, managing only 26 appearances (13 as a starter) in all competitions so far.

Andrey’s current Emirates deal expires in 2013 and, in my opinion, doesn’t look like he will be handed an extension to his existing contract. So if the club want to recoup some cash then they should look to sell him to the highest bidder in the summer, or risk losing him on a free instead.
