Does Wenger need to dip into the market after another defeat?

So we lost against a decent Swansea side on Sunday. I will admit after we conceded the third goal I turned the channel over in pure frustration. I was so fed up and that upset with the team that for the first time in 31 years I chose to switch over.

In my honest opinion we desperately need players within are squad who are consistent performers.

Andrey Arshavin, who has been made a scapegoat by several Arsenal fans and pundits alike, displayed his talent, which we all know he has, but wasted a few chances. However, Aaron Ramsey was the most disappointing player on the pitch on Sunday. The Welshman was responsible for giving away the penalty and his passing was well off, so much so that I can only remember his playing one decent ball in the entire 90 minutes.

The truth of course is the whole team lacked passion. It is obvious to everyone that Arsene Wenger needs to dip into the market; the question is where do we need to strengthen? We are due to have Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta back for the Man Utd game on Sunday, which will undoubtedly make a huge difference to the shape of the team.

If you were to ask me where we need strengthening, I would say in defence, midfield and upfront – three players to improve our squad.

We need to invest in a centre-back, someone like Chris Samba, who yesterday handed in a transfer request at Blackburn. He’d be an ideal signing as he would not need to adjust to the Premier League, is strong, and has a commanding presence. We also need to buy at least one other midfielder (a creative one) and another striker to support Robin van Persie. However, in terms of players being available to sign in the January transfer window, many players will wait until the summer to seal moves.

So I put it to you guys. Firstly, should we snap up Samba from Blackburn? Could the Congo centre-back help us out in defence? Secondly, which positions need strengthening? And who would you bring in?

I agree Aaron Ramsey was at his worst. His performance lately is dissapointing; loses the ball easily, poor passes at times and also poor finishing! The boy needs a rest I think.

I don’t think Samba is the answer. Our target should be to sign a left-back; Aly Cissokho would be ideal. I was excited when reports were circulating on the internet that he was supposedly offered to us, but then ‘LeBoss’ obviously stepped in and made it clear that he would only sign him on loan, to which Lyon refused.
Another possition that obviously needs strengthening is upfront. How does Wenger expect us to convincingly win games if we only have one reliable goal threat? To me, Luuk De Jong seems like a healthy option; he’s got skill, flair ,and, at the age of 21, is still young enough to be molded into the perfect Arsenal forward.

Great stadium we have now, shame about the team though. We’ve gone so average in our buys that our performances are average and our league position is average. We are AVERAGE in every aspect. Better get used to it!!!

By the time we acquire any more players we will have lost 12 points in January alone. That’s what indecision does for you. We should have borrowed a full back on 1st Jan. – having lined it up before. The defensive crisis had been looming since December.
