Anderlecht striker dismisses Arsenal link

|

Signed in 2008 from Belgrano, Matias Suarez has been on a fantastic run of form for Anderlecht, which has seen him attract interest from many European clubs.

The 23-year-old Anderlecht striker has been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks as Arsene Wenger looks to add firepower to his squad, which has heavily relied on Dutch ace Robin Van Persie.

But Suarez, who has scored 7 goals in 18 appearances for Anderlecht so far this season, has denied claims linking him with a move away from Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, insisting he wants to stay at the Belgian club with his contract expiring in June 2015.

Anderlecht is currently sitting on top of the Belgian Pro League, one point clear of Gent. And after he was handed the Golden Boot award for being elected Belgian Player of the Year 2011, Suarez claimed he would not be tempted into leaving The Paars-Wit in the winter transfer window.

He recently told the De Standard:

‘I want to, at the very least, finish the job that I started and that is helping the team to win the title, which is what everyone deserves.

‘I don’t know where the story has come from that I will be joining this winter, but I can formally deny it.

‘My bosses are well aware of what I want and that is to stay at Anderlecht for now. I’m still learning and that’s another reason why I don’t want to leave.’

I’m not sure about him as a striker as this is the first I’ve ever heard of him, so him choosing to stay and not join us, or any other club for that matter, is actually good news in my book. From what I’ve read he’s good, but to be honest the Belgian Pro League isn’t one of the greatest leagues in the world. I don’t think we need more players to sit on the bench, come on and not change anything.
