Scottish Premier League outfit Hibernian will take young Arsenal striker Rhys Murphy on trial next week.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international had a trial at Rangers in August last year, where he played for their reserve side, and will reportedly be auditioning for Hibs in a bounce game against Partick Thistle on Monday.

The 21-year-old forward, who has been with Arsenal since 2004 but signed his first professional contract with the club in 2008, has not made a senior appearance for the Gunners despite an impressive record of 17 goals in 21 games for the academy side before breaking into Neil Banfield’s reserve side.

During the 2009/10 season, Murphy was sent out on a three-month loan to Brentford, where he managed to make six appearances for the League One club, but failed to find the net on all occasions.

Last season Murphy made 14 appearances for the Arsenal reserves, scoring 3 goals along the way.
