Schalke join race for Arsenal target

|

Schalke are the latest side to join the race for Arsenal target Lukas Podolski this January, according to talkSPORT.

The 26-year-old German international has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar in recent weeks, with the Frenchman weighing up a possible move for the Cologne star when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Although Wenger recently hinted that he will not dive into the winter market unless absolutely necessary, many Arsenal fans still believe Le Boss must acquire a top striker to help out Robin van Persie upfront with the goals, as Marouane Chamakh seems to have completely lost his way in recent months.

Podolski has yet to hear from The Gunners regarding a winter move, but Wenger will have to act swiftly if he wants to snap up the German’s signature, as interest in the dynamic striker continues to grow.

Lazio are also reportedly interested in the former Bayern Munich striker, and it now appears Schalke are as well.

The Bundesliga side are believed to be on the hunt for a forward to replace the ageing Raul, whose contract runs out next summer, and manager Horst Heldt believes Podolski could be the ideal substitute for the Real Madrid legend.
