Has RVP emulated Bergkamp?

Robin Van Persie and Dennis Bergkamp, The flying Dutch man and the non-flying Dutch man. What do these two players have in common other than nationality?

Simple answer is their style of play, creativity, eye for goal and magnificent skill on the ball not forgetting their habit of scoring spectacular goals. Despite both playing for Arsenal in different era’s there are some striking similarities between these two Dutch men.

Bergkamp will be remembered best as a support striker at Arsenal and as one of the greatest foreign players to grace the premier league, where his tactical awareness and deft passes made him a great exponent of the game from the ‘hole’ where he created so many headaches for the opposition. Whereas Van Persie, who he is currently being compared to, is playing as the lone target man and doing well, he’s tactical awareness and passing is just as good as Bergkamp was. And his finishing, need I say more…

One of the Gunners Greatest 50 players, only Dutch man in the FIFA hall of fame, FIFA 100 greatest living players and 3rd in FIFA world player of the year twice. Bergkamp we could say has achieved all he wanted to in football after arriving from Inter Milan for 7.5 million pounds in June 1995, making 411 appearances until he left the club in May 2006 scoring 120 for Arsenal.

Van Persie is already on track to pass Bergkamp’s goal record but what our current Dutch man hasn’t done is what the previous one did that made him so great, and that was win those all important trophy’s, yes the teams are different and the trophy drought hasn’t been kind to Van Persie who we can see from his performances could very well be up there with the likes of Bergkamp in terms of achievements in my opinion as both are world class.

Right now all I can say is Van Persie will be remembered as one of our greatest goal scorers and players to ever play for Arsenal, with no trophy’s won during his time here I can’t see any other way we can compare him to Bergkamp other than the fact that both if I’m not mistaken are very much alike. If Van Persie decides to end his career at Arsenal we will win trophies provided wenger invests into strengthening the squad. And when he retires maybe he will join Bergkamp in the FIFA Hall Of Fame.

Both great men and fantastic soccer players, the only difference between them are the winner’s medals.

Van Persie is great but Bergkamp was next level!

I love Robin and if he plays like this for the next 3 seasons (if we keep him) then you can compare him to Bergkamp.

Robin is having hes best ever season at Arsenal, he would have had many before if it wasnt for injury but Bergkamp was top class for us season after season.

Whenever i think of Bergkamp i think of that goal against Newcastle, never seen anything else like that in my life, he was a real magician!!
