With Robin van Persie’s contract due to expire in 18 months or so, former Gunner Ray Parlour has emphasized just how important it is to Arsenal FC to keep the Dutchman at the club.

Robin has been in amazing form for The Gunners this season and his form is a big part of Arsenal’s resurgence in recent weeks, and Parlour suggests the club should break the bank in an attempt to keep him put:

‘I just hope he stays and if it takes £130,000 or £140,000-a-week then Arsenal have really got to think about giving it to him because he is such an important player for the future.’

I am in complete agreement with Parlour on this one. Arsenal need to have a readjustment of their wage structure, not make massive changes to it, but they should raise the upper limit slightly because in my book £130,000-140,000-a-week for the 28-year-old would be well worth it.

Parlour went on to say:

‘He’s helping the youngsters coming through as well and he has been a brilliant skipper. He has got the dressing room exactly how it should be and that is important.’

If anybody at Arsenal is worth these kind of wages it’s Van Persie, and I don’t think anybody could disagree with that.

Why aren’t these ex players urging us to buy in top quality players?

That would help van persie stay … instead all we have to look forward to is breaking the bank to hold onto players! When is this debt going to be paid off because this is ridiculous… we are the arsenal and at least 5 other competitors in our league can out spend us by miles.

If Kroenke’ s patterns remain true to how he manages to spend litte or nothing in the states on his teams, I do not think this will happen. Of course, I agree with that the Gunners do need to raise their wage scale, as it has been in place for years and times have changed. They have the ability to pay, but do not appear interested. Were the City fans right in their chants???
