Everton manager David Moyes has revealed that he made a speculative approach for former Gunner’s striker Thierry Henry prior to their match at the weekend.
Moyes recently told reporters:
‘I saw some fantastic players [on Saturday] and I acknowledged them.
‘I asked Thierry Henry on the way in, he’ll tell you.
‘I said if he wants a game to let me know.’
The former Barcelona man is currently at New York Red Bulls, but has been in London for the last few weeks training with Arsenal during the MLS off season and attended the unveiling of a statue of himself outside the Emirates Stadium on Friday.
There have been rumours that Arsene Wenger may snap him up on a loan move until the MLS begins again in March, something Arsenal fans would be happy to see, especially with Robin van Persie in such fine form, fans would relish the chance to see him pair up again with the club’s all time record goal-scorer.
Theo Walcott certainly rates the 35-year-old.
The Arsenal winger said:
‘Thierry still looks good, is training with us and you hear the fans chanting ‘sign him up, sign up’. I don’t know if there’s any chance you’d have to ask the boss that.
‘He’s still fit, playing in the MLS, and enjoys playing his football so much that I don’t think he wants the break.’
Henry is looking to get a loan deal sorted out, so if Wenger does not make him an offer then he does have other options.
Moyes took LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan on loan in January 2010 and was very impressed with his performances, so he would be open to a similar deal with Henry.
The Everton boss added:
‘We’re trying [to score more goals], we’re looking around the club to see if we can solve that. We have done it with some young players and tried to look at other solutions. It’s a manager’s job to find it if you can’t get it from anywhere else.’
