Arsenal target Podolski ‘not for sale’ state Cologne

|

Arsene Wenger is likely to bring in another forward in the New Year and has sent scouts out to watch German international Lukas Podolski several times in recent months, which many believe would be a good acquisition for the Gunners.

The 26-year-old, whose current deal runs out in June 2013, has scored more than 40 goals for Germany and has recently hinted that he would like a move to England. However, Cologne want to keep him even though Podolski wants to play Champions League football next season, something that doesn’t seem to be in the German clubs distant future – starting the weekend in 11th position in the Bundesliga.

Lokomotiv Moscow have also contacted Cologne about a possible transfer last week, but were told Podolski was not for sale.

Cologne’s sporting director Volker Finke said he was not willing to talk money with the Russian club, insisting Cologne want to extend Podolski’s contract.

Finke told German publication Bild:

‘There were no numbers on a possible transfer or period when the transfer should take place.

‘But that does not matter. We want to extend his contract.’

If Cologne’s resistance can be broken, which I think it can be, I’m sure Podolski will fit in well at Arsenal.

The German craves Champions League football and looks like a player who is hungry for success, something that Cologne are currently lacking, whereas Arsenal are on the right track with their convincing run of form and with three more world class players possibly coming in during the January transfer window, The Gunners could bag a trophy come the end of the season.
