A potential short-term replacement for Santos?

|

The 26-year-old Nigerian, who only signed for Milan in the summer from Marseille, has recently voiced his frustration over the lack of first-team opportunities he is receiving at the Serie A club under Massimiliano Allegri.

Since moving to Italy, Taiwo has made just 6 appearances for the Serie A champions, and it is believed that if the situation doesn’t change or get better quickly then he may consider his options, potentially becoming a January target for Arsenal.

The strong full-back told L’Equipe:

‘I am suffering every day because I don’t get to play football. I joined this club in order to play, but I have made only six appearances so far.

‘I don’t understand how things work in Italy. Sometimes I even have to watch from the stands, but I really need to play in order to show what I can do.

‘It looks like [coach Massimiliano] Allegri doesn’t have faith in me. It’s not like me to just sit back and do nothing in a situation like this.’

Taiwo is contracted to Milan until 2014, but with Luca Antonini keeping him out of the side, and Arsenal currently without Andre Santos, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinon sidelined with injuries, a January loan bid for the Nigerian international may be on the cards for Wenger.

I believe this would be a great move on Wenger’s part, one that would certainly solve our left-back problem and bolster our defence in the meantime.

Go for it AW!

Santos is pretty much out for the rest of the season. If he comes back in 3 months as planned, which I doubt, Wenger will say he needs a couple weeks to get back. So know we’re in the second half of March and it’s almost guaranteed he’ll have a setback or two, and then the season is over. Disappointing really since I rate him more than Gibbs.

Djourou is beast at right back!

To me, i would suggest that Wenger should convert either Francis Coquelin and or Emmanuel Frimpong to the right back position temporarily for now to cover up. These two youngmen are versatile and would be able to play to expectation and also they would add bite to the attack.
These two players are eager play and would therefore exert more energy to succeed. That position is not fit for Djourou, though Djourou is good but his capability to man that position is questionable.
