Arsenal cannot afford to lose Robin van Persie, according to their former captain Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas was one of three big name departures from the Emirates over the summer that also included the sales of Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri. Now, the Spanish international believes Arsenal must do what they can to keep hold of their star striker.

However, Fabregas has also claimed that Van Persie must decide now whether he wants to stay at Arsenal or leave.

The Barcelona midfielder said:

‘It is his decision. At his age, if he wants to move, it will be his last chance and it he wants to stay he will stay and retire at Arsenal.

‘We will see what he decides but he’s been very loyal to Arsenal for a few years. He is a key player, the fans love him. For me, he is the role model of Arsenal, the star player and they cannot afford to lose him.’

Van Persie has told Arsenal that he would like to talk about renewing his current contract at the end of the season.

    wenger has 2 choices.
he fails to buy world-class players to play alonsude him ,JW, ramsey chezzer, and TV5 and he loses RVP.
or he buys some top class players and gives RVP a long contract and in which case im sure he will sign.
Its not a money issue with RVP, chelsea offered double RVPs wages to lure him there a few seasons back. The issue is with ambitions being realised.

I am confused. The same guy who insisted on leaving and actually left even after the boss did everything to keep him now tells us to do everything possible to keep RVP? And in the same breathe warns RVP to note that if he does not leave now he will never be able to leave again, thereby ending his career at Arsenal?! I am not losing sight of the fact that he is presently having a tete-a-tete with his coach, Pep on whether or not to once again poach another of our players – Alex Song. Wonders, they say, never end.
