‘I love this club and I want to do well for it’

Before the game against Norwich on yesterday afternoon, which ended in a 2-1 win for The Gunners, French magazine L’Equipe published an interview which claimed Arsene Wenger might not be with the north London club in the long-term.

But Wenger later came out and insisted his future is still with Arsenal:

The Frenchman said:

‘The only reason I would consider my position is when I have the feeling that I cannot take the club forward and that’s why I said that.

‘The situation is simple. I am committed to this club and I have a long contract. That was just a conversation where if I thought what I delivered was not good enough but I want to keep people happy at this club, I love this club.

‘On my side there is no doubt in my commitment, I love this club and I want to do well for this club as long as I have a contract.’

I think it’s great to hear that Wenger still wants to take us forward and that he wants to fulfil his promise, which in this case is running down his contract. He’s managed to turn our season around after a disastrous start and its clear to see why the media would want to make it look like he might be ready to walk away before his contract expires in a few years time.

But if he really wants to do well for Arsenal, he will need to guide the team to a trophy this season – even the Carling Cup, in my opinion, would be just enough to kick start a trophy crazed run.
