Why a return to Arsenal for this midfielder will not help in anyway

With Denilson under severe pressure from fans in Brazil to end his loan move early and return to the Gunners, I ask – could he be the solution to Arsenal’s current midfield crisis?

The 23-year-old Brazilian endured a tough last two years in north London, and is an unpopular figure with his parent club after four years of below par performances. He also took a parting shot at his employers after leaving earlier in the year, labelling himself ‘a winner’ and bemoaning the lack of trophies won during his time at the Emirates.

Denilson is currently in the middle of a season-long loan spell with Sao Paulo after falling out of favour with Wenger, but has endured a rough time at his new club – being sent off twice, once on his debut for the Brazilian club.

To add to his woes, Denilson’s return to his homeland caused rifts between the ambitious midfielder and the fans, a divide which widened this week when he labelled a majority of them who protested against boss Adilson Batista as:

‘very, very annoying.’

Fans are now calling for the man Denilson was defending to never allow the former Brazilian youth team captain to play for the club again.

Arsenal’s midfield is desperately short of bodies following the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, while Jack Wilshere’s 5 month injury absence has compounded their problems.

That being said, could Denilson really be a possible solution to our midfield problems? The simple answer here is no.

The last thing we need, even though our squad has been severely stretched this season, is a player who isn’t happy to be here in the first place, not to mention the fact that he is a very poor player and has never been able to impress despite his one or two moments of supposed brilliance.

In my opinion, I’d rather have one of the reserve team players step into the midfield role as they are eager to play and won’t give the club a bad name by claiming that they are incapable of winning silverware. No matter how true the statement may be, some things aren’t meant to be publicized.

Wenger and Arsenal would have been better off selling the ungrateful Brazilian and acquiring a replacement, and with the current attitude that he’s been showcasing, not many clubs would want him.

denilson is a part of the previous group of young hopefuls that never materialised into anything, most of those players like bendtner were moved on and anyone actually good enough was sold, i.e. flamini, clichy, fab, nasri. this seasons team of first team youngsters and reserves hold the most potential in my opinion, bringing someone like denilson back will only get in the way of their development, if wenger wont buy world class talent because it will hinder their development, why bring back a deadwood player like denilson that players like coquelin and frimpong are better than anyway. it seems like the team keeps evolivng every other season, so why bring back useless players just move them on
