Captain fantastic Robin van Persie opted to out message in the match day program yesterday to address the recent rumours questioning his commitment to the club.

The 28-year-old Dutchman wrote:

‘I want to say something about my commitment to Arsenal because there have been many stories in the media lately, I am committed to Arsenal, and that’s how it is, despite people [in the media] making up stories. For example, they said I was selling my house, but that’s nothing recent, I moved house last year.’

It appears that the media has once again been caught out filling in the blanks with whatever they feel will sell the most amount of stories. I for one am really happy that RVP decided to address the issue in the way that he did. To go on record to all the fans is a huge show of support to the club and this was all done before the match had even started.

RVP went on to comment in the match day program:

‘I see stories which make me laugh, but I can see how frustrating it is from the fans’ point of view. But I am committed to Arsenal. I am captain, and fans should not believe everything they read.’

‘As for that house story, the house has been for sale for a while, but I’m not living on the streets or anything, I have found a really nice house, and yes, it’s in London! So I want to put that straight, I am committed, and I will show that on the pitch.’

And show it he did. It took just 28 seconds for Van Persie to show the fans his commitment by netting a great goal from a wonderful pass from Gervinho with his right foot to give Arsenal an early lead. It was later announced that it was the fastest goal of the Premier League this season and it also was Arsenal’s fastest goal ever in the domestic league.

In an interview after the match, Van Persie had this to say:

‘I guess it was my first touch. I was a bit surprised as well, but it was a really good pass from Gervinho, I took a good touch with my left foot and it went in. But I didn’t know it was such a quick goal.’

There were some fans that had missed the goal as they were still finding and getting to their seats!

Now all we need to to is get him to sign a new deal!
