Juan Manuel Vargas, the Viola winger and the man who lead Peru from the front in the Copa America, is attracting huge interest from English giants Arsenal.

It is also reported that an Arsenal scout will be going to the Fiorentina v Catania game tomorrow in order to run the rule over the versatile winger and help Arsene Wenger decide whether he should launch a bid for him in January.

Vargas was recently branded ‘unprofessional’ by manager Sinisa Mihajlovic and looks highly likely to be on his way out.

Mihajlovic recently said this of the player after learning that Vargas spent a night out late in the town and turned up to training late.

‘We talked about it when he returned from international duty & I left him out of the squad because he was unprofessional. We discovered the Friday before the Lazio game that he was out late. If I had known earlier, I would have left him out of the squad for the Lazio game.’

Vargas is a very versatile player. He can play as a left-back, left-winger and occasionally in the centre of midfield. He caught the eyes of the Arsenal scouts with his strong performances in the Copa America, where he captained Peru to third place.

The player is rated at roughly £13 million and if the scouting team send the right signal to Wenger, there might well be a bid for the Peruvian in January.

With Gervinho all set to miss the entire January because of the African Cup Of Nations, Wenger will surely be looking for cover.

However, Sinisa Mihajlovic has not ruled out solving his differences with Vargas:

‘We will see how he behaves during the week. I need the real Vargas, not his less impressive brother.’

In my opinion, Vargas has got a no-nonsense playing style and is also well-known for his aggression and leadership skills. His versatility would be a welcomed Arsenal and would potentially be a good signing for the Gunners in the winter.
