Wojciech Szczesny has spoken of his admiration for Emmanuel Adebayor ahead of the north London derby later today, but also admitted that he wants to prevent the former Arsenal striker from getting on the score-sheet.
Adebayor, who has a very sour relationship with the Gooners after his controversial celebration in front of them 2 years ago in City colours, is been tipped by the bookies to strike again at White Hart Lane.
Now at fierce rivals Spurs, the former Togo international can expect even more abuse from his former fans, but Shezza is more concerned about frustrating Emmanuel on the pitch.
The 21-year-old Polish international was quoted in the Daily Mirror saying:
‘I would love to keep a clean sheet against him.’
‘He is a quality player and probably one of the best strikers I have ever trained with. It will be hard to stop him but I am confident I can do it.’
‘Who won the battles in training between us? Well I am the one still at the club,” he added with a huge grin. “As a defence, we know our job and we know how to deal with him. I am not going to say how – that will be our little secret.’
I think its fair to say that we all don’t want him getting on the score-sheet today, especially if he is going to celebrate in front of us like he did 2 years ago in Manchester.
Then again, I wouldn’t care if he did, just as long as we ended up with the 3 points after the 90 minutes.
