Park Chu-Young has recently revealed that there is no chance he’ll be able to avoid national service in two years’ time.

The 26-year-old South Korean, who is quickly becoming Arsenal’s forgotten summer signing due to his rare appearances, completed his reported £4 million move to the Emirates from Monaco on the eve of transfer deadline day.

However, it appears that the forward will only spend two years in north London before he is forced to return to his homeland for compulsory national service.

The South Korea international was recently quoted in several media publications stating:

‘It isn’t really possible to be excused. That can’t and won’t happen, which is another reason I chose to come here.’

‘I’ll have to leave Europe in two years’ time and I thought this would be an incredible place to finish. My national service is inevitable and there is no point in thinking anything else.’

Park then hinted that he may not make a return to Europe after his national service is complete, unless something ‘interesting’ pops up:

‘I’ll still be playing games, but for an army club. I think it’ll be difficult to return to Europe after that, although if something interesting comes up, you never know.’

I believe the Arsenal board, Wenger as well as us (the fans) knew that this was going to be the case when we signed him. There was of course a slim chance that Park could have avoided the service, but this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Hopefully Wenger makes the most of his services while he is still a Gooner!
