With Arsenal to face Sunderland today, a number of Arsenal fans on Twitter are anxiously awaiting the match to start. News that will not help the nerves is that Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has recently said that he has no targets for the season ahead.

‘We just want to win, play our football and like that we can go towards the top of the table. We don’t think about whether we are in the top four, we take it game by game.’

I can understand his point of not setting goals and taking it game by game, but we need to realise that we have to start to improve with every game we play otherwise we stand no chance of playing in the Champions League next year.

Koscielny has also addressed the Arsenal v Sunderland game today and the importance of it:

‘We go onto the pitch on Sunday with a good spirit and we want to win the game, It is very important for us, for the club and for the supporters.’

The Frenchman stated that he would be prepared to fill in for the injured Bacary Sagna at right-back, but I think although he is capable of playing there, I think it’s time to give Carl Jenkinson a few games and a chance to prove himself:

‘I played right-back when I started my career.’

‘Now it’s maybe seven years since that If I have to go to right-back I will give my best for the team and will try to do the job with my qualities. It is difficult when you lose Bacary because he is a strong guy and one of the best players. Behind him is Carl (Jenkinson) so I think he will play. I know Carl and when he comes on the pitch he gives everything he can for the team.’

I hope truly that Carl Jenkinson gets a chance to prove himself because we brought him for a reason, and in the games he has played for us, the youngster has impressed me. However, the only way he will develop further is by getting a run of games under his belt and now is the time for him to do so.
