The Arsenal midfield is an area that has suffered a lot in recent years and the departures of Samir Nasri to Manchester City and Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona during this summers transfer window certainly did not help the cause.
Rumours had surfaced on countless targets that Arsene Wenger was apparently in for before the transfer deadline day, one which came as a slight shock was the supposed interest in Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey.
The 28-year-old is a hardworking player, good at crossing the ball and finds the net more often than not. He is the kind of player Arsenal needed to help exploit Chamak’s aerial ability and help the Gunners cause problems of their own from attacking set-pieces.
In my opinion, the purchase of Dempsey this summer would have been good for Arsenal. He is certainly someone who could have provided competition for starting roles at the club, and fill in when Andre Arshavin or any other of the attackers form dipped.
Dempsey had revealed Arsenal were interested in signing him a few days ago.
The American told Goal.com:
‘Yes there was interest from clubs, including Arsenal, but nothing materialized.’
The most likely reason as to why Arsenal never made a move for Dempsey was probably because of his £10 million price-tag, which almost certainly put Wenger off his scent.
But the Frenchman did eventually bolster Arsenal’s midfield options with the signings of Mikel Arteta, who is seen as a replacement for Cesc and bags experience under his belt, and Yossi Benayoun, who I understand will play a more attacking role to provide the creativity that Arsenal have been lacking in recent games.
Dempsey would have been a good acquisition for us, but I think Wenger made better choices in Mikel and Yossi.

WE are arsenal.we need to give Wenger a chance see where we are at the end of the season and if as I think Wenger has outlived his stay then we sack him.also kroenke seriously needs to go bring back dein and usmanov
The advantage Dempsey has over Arteta is that Dempsey is hardly injured. He would have been a good addition, especially as Jack is now out for 3 months and we have to hope Mikel doesn’t get injured
