So the transfer window has closed until January, yet the rumours and links are still floating around.
Arsenal were linked with a move for Neven Subotic this summer, before we eventually signed Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen. However, Subotic has recently announced that he will not leave Borussia Dortmund, unless a ‘powerful’ team from England expresses an interest in his services.
The Serbian centre-back was quoted on talkSPORT.com saying:
‘I have no reason to go away from here. I feel good and this is a great city. I could never go to another club in Germany and, if I was to leave here, I would only consider a powerful club in England.’
Now my immediate thought about this rumour was – ‘well, why do we need another centre-back?’, but then I remembered the injury situation we currently have, as well as our backup options, and thought – ‘well maybe we do need another centre-back to come in’, it would be a good idea to provide cover for our injured players.
We all are aware that Arsenal still have cash to spend following several departures from the club over the summer, so maybe come the January window we will see a few more faces arrive at the Emirates.
At only 22, Subotic still has time on his side and after watching several videos on the player, it does look like he could adapt to the Premier League quickly and sufficiently. However, there is currently no way we could get our hands on him until the transfer window re-opens and by then we will have a better understanding on how our new look squad works together, so perhaps a move for the Serbian may not be necessary.
We could also face stern competition from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and undoubtedly Manchester City for his signature if we were to go for him.
Arsenal will be able to witness first hand how Subotic gets on in our Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund this coming Tuesday.

must we buy because we have money to spend,well i do not think we need subotic…though we need another defender in the person of cahill;arsenal needs to buy another english player @the back- he even will let there be a fresh air upon the club and aw and will cost much less or nothing. he’ll be available for champions league.then we need a classy midfielder,perhaps mvilla, gotze or i preffer montolivo’s physique,then a winger ; hazard.
good points, im sure we will get cahill probably for free, make him sign a pre contract in january as his contract expires with bolton at the end of this season, bolton should have took the money for him as they will lose him for free now, with bigger clubs interested for him i doubt he will be a bolton player come next season. we should buy hazard and a top quality midfielder aswell to make this strong enough to challenge for titles, i think this squad is still short considering we have bought players.
The problem with January window is that players are not always available. However, it is better to start early than wait for the last minute. If Arsenal is interested ina aplayer in january, it is better to make the arrangements now though confidentially.
Gary Cahill, honestly!? This guy is freaking LIGHTYEARS better than Cahill. Id take either of the Dortmund CB’s ahead of Cahill.
