What I would do if I was in charge of Arsenal FC

Recently the amount of transfer speculation surrounding the club has increased to unprecedented levels. We’ve been linked with what feels like every third professional footballer in world football.

Most of what we read is total nonsense; lies peddled by lazy journalists. Still, it can’t all be fiction. Can it?

I’ve read rumours of possible midfield reinforcements coming in the form of Valbuena, Martin, Jadson, Joe Cole, Barton, Mata, Taarabt, Parker and Hazard. Then there are the strikers we’ve been linked with, including Benzema, Doyle, Falcao, Odemwingie, Zarate, Lukaku and Defoe. And let’s not forget the constant rumours surrounding our defence. Everyday new names are mentioned, such as Jagielka, Dann, Cahill, Samba, Mertesacker and Baines.

Now, there is no hiding the fact that many of these players would seriously strengthen our team.

Every man and his dog know we need another defender. I don’t care how much more settled Squillaci is in the team, if he never pulled on an Arsenal shirt again I’d be a happy man. However, happy that would make me it’s nowhere near the levels of delirious joy I felt when everyone’s favourite ‘winner’ Denilson left the club; though my heart filled with dread when I heard he wanted to come back.

Diaby is a favourite of mine, but is he a starter? I’ll answer that one for you. No, he isn’t

The ‘best striker in the world’ – Bendtner – looks like he might be in the process of slinging his hook. I’ve always liked him, and if he wasn’t played horribly out of position, I have no doubts that he’d have scored more last year. It’s a shame he might leave.

Almunia…….need I say more?

Cesc is gone and Nasri is going. These players represent the heartbeat of our team. Replacing them is going to be tricky. Clichy is less of a loss.

There are others at the club that supporters might feel are not good enough to play for the team. (Please feel free to add their names to the comments section below).

So what exactly do Arsenal need to sort their team out? If I was in charge of the signings who would I bring in?

Goalkeeper:

I think we’re fine with what we’ve got to be honest. Almunia has clearly had his day. Shezzers looks the real deal and I would say we have the best young keeper in the league. Manure fans might disagree, but they’re wrong. Fabianski is capable back-up.

Left-back:

With Clichy making his way out of the Emirates fire escape, many fans have called on us to sign Leighton Baines as a like-for-like replacement. Wenger is never going to do this in a million years. We’ve got Gibbs after all. Time will tell if he is too injury-prone; sadly the signs aren’t good. I hope he gets more durable as he gets older because I honestly believe that if he can keep playing games then he is going to be an Arsenal and England regular.

Right-back:

Sagna was the best right-back in the league last season. Jenkinson looks a great cover signing.

Great article that made me feel much more optimistic. I would buy Jags, Hazard, Benzema and I really think we need a top drawer experienced central midfielder aswell to guide Wilshere and Ramsey along aswell. Rosicky can still provide guidance for them even if he is getting older, as can other experienced players.

Whether Mourinho would want to sell Benzema is a different story though.

FANS ,is Harzard creative enough at the midfield? we need valbuena in this position.
for defence=cahill, michel bastos for free kicks and we are done.

I would always mix my signings not to always sign kids who will actually leave me when they get mature enough. I’d make sure Not to sell my key players withwout first having a replacements. Look what the mistake has costed us alot.

for me it will be, Jadson, Hazad, baines and Cahill

i would prefer jan verthonghen and eden hazard. And if wenger is smart, he would ask for milner as makeweight for nasri. That is all

  • Goonstar says:

oh yeah, and offload s.squillaci and that lazy diaby. Both are not big game players, screwing up more often than they help out

Why is everyone overlooking how terrible alex song is? He is supposed to be a holding midfielder, against udinese he was the furthest player forward at times, you would never see a makele or Hargreaves at his best doing this. This is one of biggest problems with our defense, there is no one protecting them. Flamini was class at this role, we let diarra go and never replaced them, instead of a striker we should be looking at replacing song! Wilshere will fill the void left by cesc no trouble, a centre half, dm and hazard are the 3 signings we need

When I read the title of this article,I thought he do to again..another wanker behind a keyboard telling us how easy it is to fix the club.
    Guess what…I was right.
However, the wanker in question used logic and intelligence to argue his case,so is not a wanker at all.
Brilliant article, and I am glad I looked past the title.
Fwiw, given one player to buy,I would definitely pick Hazard.
    Great work.
