It has been reported that Arsenal are currently interested in signing, wait for it, Joe Cole from Liverpool to replace City-bound Samir Nasri.

Sadly, this is not a joke. A number of websites and blogs have reported that Arsenal have been linked with the 29-year-old, who is thought to be on around £90,000 a week at Liverpool.

Once described by Steven Gerrard as ‘Better than Messi’, he was handed the #10 shirt by then manager Roy Hodgson.

Since joining Liverpool in July 2010, Joe ‘Better than Messi’ Cole went on to make his Premier League debut for the Reds against Arsenal at Anfield. He lasted just 45 minutes before being sent off for a tackle on Koscielny. His current Liverpool stats stand at a less than impressive 20 games and 2 goals.

Liverpool are said to be desperate to offload Cole on a free transfer just so that they can lower their wage bill.

If Arsene Wenger is actually interested in him and this is not just a case of the media clutching at straws, then this could well be the worst player that we have been linked with all summer – I would even put this rumour on level terms with Joey Barton.

There is no way that the England international will be on £90,000 a week with Arsenal, so if he was to join then he would have to take a huge pay cut and, to be honest, I really don’t think that we should be looking at him – he’s always injured as well.

Cole has also been linked with Premier League new boys QPR and French giants PSG, which both, in my opinion, would be preferable destinations for the Liverpool winger to look at.

We don’t want or need Cole at the Emirates, end of.

Is this the worst player that we’ve been linked with so far this summer?

This is another example of the lazy british press re-running an old story from last year. Wenger was not interested then and Coles performances this past year would indicate Wenger will not be interested again. Hope the rumours of Scott Dann asking Birmingham to listen to offers for him means that Arsene has made enquiries for him. Watch this space

    Iain,
I agree with you. The rumours surrounding Cole and Barton are on an appalling par.
Yet another example showing how the press will go to any length to sell newspapers.

Joe LOL is not what we need. The fact Redknapp up the road isn’t trying to sign him says it all really.

Lord, I pray this is ‘april fool’ joke in august…

It wouldn’t surprise me if he showed up at the Emirates… Wenger loves signing crocks!

That’s how fan frenzy is born. First you say a team is in crisis and then you start producing fake transfer rumours about all the players that are unwanted at their clubs (Barton, Defoe, etc.). Fans get irate at the manager for causing the crisis and then hold him responsible for idiotic supposed transfer dealings. A double whammy! And all that without so much as looking outside the window. You can really create such rumours out of thin air, and yet they would sting some.
    Anybody knows what “ethics” means?

If he is free and takes a wage cut I would take him. You do not go from one of England’s nost consistent to rubbish in such a short space. He does not have to play every week but he would be a superb positive influence for our younger english players. A player in our dressing room who has 2 leagues titles on a free! However I would sooner see AW bid proper cash for Raul Meireles. The forgotten man at Liverpool. 33 ganes 5 goals and 9 assists last year.

Iain: Tough question for you….. you have to sign one. Barton or Cole. Which would you rather have at the club and why?

    • Iain says:

      Ohhh god mike…

Ok in this instance and only in this instance I would sign Joe Cole. As for the reason Because I hate Joey Barton with a firey passion that burns deep to my soul.

Also Joe Cole would be more likely to spend the majority of his time at Arsenal injured so I wouldn’t HAVE to play him.

This way if he wasn’t injured I would have a backup if everyone else was injured.

There is also the benefits of signing Joey Barton and making him my bitch but to be honest I’d probably be charged with murder within a few hours.

Hopefully this answers your question 😉
