Ex-Gunner believes Wenger will walk if he has hit a dead-end at Arsenal

Former Gunners captain David O’Leary reckons Arsene Wenger will quit Arsenal if the Frenchman feels he has done all he can for the club, according to talkSPORT.

O’Leary, who made 722 appearances for Arsenal – a club record, believes Wenger is under serious pressure to deliver the goods this season, having gone six years without capturing any form of silverware and losing his most influential players in Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri, who is likely to seal a deal to Manchester City in a matter of hours, in a matter of weeks. The former Gunner also believes that should Arsenal fail to progress to the Champions League group stages, many of the clubs fans who have been calling for Wenger’s head will grow even louder.

O’Leary told talkSPORT earlier this week:

‘I do fear for them in Italy and I hope I’m proved wrong because they are liable to concede goals. They are liable to score goals too because of the attractive way they play but they give you chances. They are a team that says: ‘we can play and play really well’, but they also say to the other team: ‘you can go and play as well’, and I think that is why teams like playing against them, it’s like a basketball match, end to end stuff.’

‘I never think Arsene will get the sack, I think he will only leave if he thinks he has done enough or he will only go when he thinks he is going down a cul-de-sac that he thinks he can’t get out of.’

‘I don’t think he is a quitter but I don’t think he has ever been in this position in his football life.’

I totally agree with O’Leary.

I also believe that Wenger will never be sacked after revolutionising the club in the manner that he did all those years ago. However, I feel if he thinks he has hit a dead-end at Arsenal, then he will walk away.

Undoubtedly, tonight’s game against Udinese is a massive one, one that will shape our season and could, quite frankly, determine our clubs position in several years to come. This may sound a little extreme and a bit far-fetched, but it’s the truth.

Should we fail to qualify to the Champions League group stages, then a lot of money will be lost, our clubs status will drop immensely, hence no big-names will be coming through the Emirates doors – not that any do these days anyway.

I don’t mean to put more pressure on the boss and the lad’s, but it has to be embedded into their brains (one more time) that this is a huge game for Arsenal football club.

Without a doubt it’s going to be a tough game against Udinese at the Stadio Friuli tonight, but I believe we have the quality to get the job done over there.

Here’s hoping!

What do you guys think – Are O’Leary’s claims accurate? Do you agree with the fromer Gunner?

IN WENGER WE TRUST AND SUPPORT!THE ONLY WAY ARSENAL GOING TO BE DOOM AND GLOOM IS THAT WENGER LEAVE THE CLUB BUT NOT NOW.

YOU HAVE TO ADMIRE WENGER FOR HIS COMMITTMENT AND HIS LEAVING IS UNIMAGINABLE.

I completely agree rickygunner don’t know what would become of us if or when he leaves. The problem is Kroenke, also Dein must come back and get rid of Gazidis. We will only get through this with Arsene on board.

I think arsene shouldn’t leave. But some of the directors need to leave.. they r very stingy and does not want to spend a little bit extra fees for more ‘experience proven’ bodies. That is why we get/bought boys for our 1st team. Cheap fees and nurtured for the future. It is good for the AFC future but what about now? We have gone six years without capturing any form of silverware!!! That is true. Look at the carling cup final last season..It was very sad to lose like that, but thats the reality, we buy average we get average results. Dear Mr Kroenke, please bring back Mr Dein, and ask those under performing directors to leave the club! I think we will lose today’s CL game by 2-0..so sad….
