Arsenal are amongst several clubs who have been linked with Sochaux midfield sensation Marvin Martin.
According to French publication L’Equipe, Arsenal and Liverpool are willing to pay around €7 million (£6.1 million) for the Frenchman – which is still €2 million short of Sochaux’s valuation – But, who the hell is he?
Marvin Martin is a 23-year-old French midfielder who has been with Sochaux since 2002 at youth level, but never became a senior member until 2008. He has to date made 103 appearances for the club, nothing up 9 goals and 28 assists.
The 5’7’’ Frenchman is known for his technique on the ball, excellent vision and playmaking attributes.
He has international experience at both Under-21 and senior level with France.
He made his senior debut on the 6th of June 2011 against Ukraine coming on a second half substitute. The game was tied at 1-1 at the time, but Martin made an immediate impact, scoring 2 goals and setting one up for fellow debutante Younès Kaboul – France ended up winning the game 4-1. In this game, Martin became only the fourth Frenchman to score 2 goals on his debut; he shares this accolade with Zinedine Zidane, Jean Vincent and Bafétimbi Gomis.
Last season, Martin managed to bag 3 goals and 19 assists for Sochaux – an impressive record that seems to have caught Arsene Wenger’s eye.
It is highly possible that a move to Arsenal for Martin could ensue this summer, due to Wenger’s connections in France.
Martin is valued at around £8 million, but I believe we could acquire him for approximately £6-7 million with our managers persuasion skills.
However, would this possible transfer appease the fans? I highly doubt it. Still, Martin looks a good player and possesses Arsenal qualities that could aide our squad further this season.

Looks a good player but with him hazard and gotze we can fill the void of fabregas and nasri if they do decide to leave.
But we definitely need a partner for vermaelen. I think kosh is a good enough replacement for either if we need him. dnt trust djourou and squillaci is the worst defender to play for this club.

@ shaf, I completely agree. Free nasri n fab, bring in Martin n hazzard. Both will blend into our style of play. Really dont fancy selfish nasri. He can’t replace fab in d middle. He’s better with short passes n ramsey makes better long range passes. Sometimes nasri play a one man game, he can if he wants too. Dir hundreds of talents dying to wear his jersey.
Someone asked why Wenger does not like buying English players. Well,what have England won in the last ten,twenty,even thirty years? Seriously,the EPL is the best in the world,and that has coincided with foreign players dominating in numbers,as well as quality. The English players transferred so far this summer have been massively overpriced,and the same can be said of those players available. Why would you buy English when you can get players from winning cultures for less money?
I watched him play the other day and was impress. he scored 2 beautiful goals that we are strugling to score at the moment. I’d say take him plus 2 centre backs in Cahill and Samba. I’m also impressed by the young Japanesse Ryo, he will be the first Asian player to win World Football Award. Frimpong is better than Song but yha neh we all see differently.
