Arsenal are reportedly considering a bid for United’s Danny Welbeck, as striker cover for RVP and his perennial injury problems.
With the limited resources at Wenger’s disposal, the recently capped Welbeck could be an interesting option alongside Robin and Chamakh for the focal point of the attack.
A figure of around £11 million is being quoted and in the days of £20 million for England Under-21’s, it isn’t a bad price.
Sir Alex has allowed players to depart to direct rivals before, but never an up and coming star.
Could the prospect of more game time and the potential of developing in a team – that seams to be getting younger daily – be more appealing to Danny, rather than sporadic bench and Carling Cup appearances at Brand United?
The North / South divide has been a difficult gap to bridge – could Welbeck be convinced to give it a go?

Also, due to continuing frustration with negotiations for Jagielka, Cahill and Samba and their £15million plus price-tags, Wenger’s eye has apparently turned towards Per Mertesacker once again.
The vastly experienced Werder Bremen defender only has one year to run on his current contract and could be available for as little as £6 million – a figure much more in keeping with Wenger’s frugal wheeling and dealing ways.
With the Premier League campaign less than 4 days away, could these signings and ongoing Mata saga be enough to tip Arsenal’s fortunes and (renew) the belief of us supporters?
