Arsene Wenger is set to spend the funds recouped from the inevitable sale of Captain Fabregas to Barcelona, to strengthen the heart of his much criticised defence in a double raid for Gary Cahill and Chris Samba.

With noises coming out of the Arsenal camp indicating that they are willing to let Cesc return to Catalonia as long as the European champion’s match their £35m valuation. A sizable chunk of change could be available for Wenger to dip into the transfer market.

Wenger’s pursuance of both deals shows his desperation to rectify the defensive failings which have plagued Arsenals ability to land major trophies, even with their sumptuous attacking play.

25-year-old Cahill has a £17m release clause in his contract which Arsenal will have to meet if Wenger is serious about landing the towering England international. The highly-rated defender has been linked with a move to the Emirates on numerous occasions with the only stumbling block to any deal being the trotters asking price. The windfall from the Fabregas sale should allow Arsenal the manoeuvrability to broker a deal for Bolton’s most prized asset.

Continuing on the thread of physical rough and ready centre-half’s playing in the north-west. Wenger has also turned his attentions to Blackburn Rovers giant, Chris Samba. The central defender is valued at £12m by Rovers, with Arsenal believed to be willing to offer £10m. According to the people sources close to the player believe a deal can eventually be agreed.

Although Arsenal fans will undoubtedly be sad to see the back of their prestigious midfield star, who arrived in the capital a fresh-faced 16 year-old with talent of epic proportions, it was Wenger’s guidance and belief which have moulded him into the creative hub of this current Arsenal side. The departure of their much-loved captain can allow Arsene to build a team with a more robust backline. Allowing their devastating attacking intricacies to be displayed without the fear of a leaking defence potentially hindering the result of games.

Sorry but i disagree, losing a player of Cesc’s caliber and only replacing him with 2 centreback’s just isn’t good enough.

Also when you compare the CB’s (who are very good targets and will improve our defence) to United’s and Chelsea’s main defenders both come up short. so we would have lost our best attacking threat and still not have as strong a defence as our closest rivals.

everyone thought vermalen would be a flop when he first came but now look at him, all gooners love him just give whoever AW brings in a chance theyll be better than squillaci and djorou

Spend the other £6m on Scott Parker and bring back Vieira for a season as player coach. For me selling Cesc and getting Vieira, Parker, Cahill and Samba is a good deal.

Then tell City they can have Nasri and Clichy for £30m

Then tell Galatasary they can have Arshavin for £13.5m

Then tell Fenerbache they can have Diaby for £10m

Then try to sell Squillaci, Denilson, Bendtner Rosicky, Vela and Almunia to anyone who will take them, we should raise about £25m. That is another £80m or there abouts to go spending with and that is without the transfer budget.

A statement was released to make the fans aware of how the finance works which said, when a player is sold, 70% of the money goes in a special account that can only be used for players wages and the like. So if we sell someone for say £50m we only get £15m to spend on a replacement. It is supposed to be a fail safe clause to stop the board trying to sell all our best players just to make themselves profit, but its clearly coming back to bite us in the ass now when we are forced to sell and then have to buy lower grade players, remember at one time when we had henry, vieirra and bergkamp on the field and on our bench alone we had fabregas and van persie. our players were so good that those 2 were just our subs! nowdays we pin our existence on them!
In my opinion, ever since the invincibles squad wenger has slowly been diluting the team by letting the best go and either not replacing or replacing with worse. weve slowly taken all the ribena out the glass and just kept adding more water!

Your argument is flawed; Cesc and RvP were extremely talented youngsters then. However, they have developed and matured into the top class players they are today.
This season, we had 3 players on the EPL team of the year and one of the players from last year´s EPL team was out injured 90% of the games.
AW main priority should be to ensure Arsenal is not seen as a selling club. His second priority is to keep those he wants and thirly, sell those he doesn´t need, even before starting to buy players. We have lots of talent coming up through the ranks. If we lose Cesc and Clichy,
        Szczesny
        Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gibbs
        Song, Nasri, Wilshere
        Walcott, RvP, Arshavin

WENGER SHOULD LEAVE. WHY SHOULD WE BE SUBJECT TO ANOTHER SEASON OF HIS FRUSTRATING EXPERIMENTS. HE HAS CREATED MEDIOCRE PLAYERS THAT EVEN BOLTON AND RUSSIAN CLUBS ARE UNWILLING TO TAKE. HE IS FAIILING TO OFFLOAD ALL THE GARBAGE PLAYERS, THE DECENT PLAYERS WANT TO LEAVE, AND THE CLUB IS FAILING TO ATTRACT GOOD PLAYERS. WHY IS THE NEW OWNER SILENT WITH ALL THIS GOING ON. WHY IS HE NOT GETTING RID OF WENGER. DOES THIS GUY UNDERSTAND THAT ARSENAL IS A FOOTBALL AND NOT SOCCER CLUB. HE SHOULD SELL TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO WIN TROPHIES. THE NEW OWNER’S FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS SHOULD BE TO FIRE WENGER.

Sry….who…..that fabregas….who has been crying for past 3 seasons I have to GO BACK….FEELING HOME SICK ?
    1) Has it been ever imagined that how much a team loses its confidence when it sees that its own captain does not want to stay in the Team ?
    2) Oh….blimey….is it that fabregas who plays a game gets injured and sits out for five ?
Let him and others go who do not want to stay at the Club…..these are some great players but at least nxt we can get to see a team who wants to play for Arsenal !
JUST GET THE DEFENCE IN RIGHT PLACE AND WE ARE BETTER THAN MANCHESTER UNITED OR CHELSKI !

  • www says:

    Szcesney
    Sagna Samba Cahill Vermaelen
    Wilshire Parker
    Vieira (c)
    Gervinho RVP Mata

Subs: Fabianski, Djourou, Koscielny, Ramsey, Song, Walcott, Chamakh

    • IndianGooner says:

everything is right abt the team but i believe mata won’t come to arsenal ! don’t get me wrong but although Arshavin had a poor last season….i firmly believe he is 15 goals a season man….he can do wonders this time around !

  • Gunzblazzin says:

Wenger you tite c*nt buy the F*cking players we need. GO GUNNERS

  • samuel says:

what will wenger ever get this players the cash will just be splitted between wenger and the board. no more buyings arsenal is droping down

  • on with de goonerboy says:

Did Arsene just realise this now? That the work the midfield and forwards were doing were being undermined by a weak defence? This is what everyone has been saying for as long as I can remember.

  • K says:

Everything this transfer window from Gervinho to Nasri is pure speculation. Fabregas leaving is by no mean inevitable. Every season, the media spew nonsense onto the rags and webpages and Gooners around the world take it is gospel – only to be proven wrong again when none of it was actually true. Gooners were convinced for 5 seasons that Fabregas would go and he’s still here. Vieira and Henry were linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona for several seasons before they left. Do any of you actually watch football? The media says we’re going to buy Cahill for 18 mil and you believe it. They say we’re going to be Downing for 20 mil and you believe it. They say we’re going to sell all our best players to our biggest rivals and you believe it. Arsenal has the stupidest, most mind-numbingly ignorant supporters on the planet. You guys are knee jerk, temperamental, impatient and quite frankly don’t have enough experience or knowledge about football to warrant the amount of vitriol you direct at your own club. I’m embarrassed and ashamed that a club this amazing attracts a bunch of lowbrow, egocentric, unappreciative douchebags as this club does. If we never win a title again, it’d be worth it just to give you f*cks a bad day. I’ll never come back to this site again.

  • Anon says:

But we are just falling into a whole here !

Sure we may help the defensive problems and sure defensive problems have been our biggest weakness

But if we lose cesc and possibly nasri …. then all we are doing is switching from defensive problems to attacking problems.

We will lose our midfield ! and if you lose the midfield you lose the game!

Cesc and nasri score handfuls of goals – replacing them with defenders is ludicrous !

And why are people acting like gervinho and alveraz are adequate replacements ? they would have been good buys if we weren’t losing anyone but no as replacements!

  • Fabregaz GHANA says:

@WWW,i tink we wuld be seln the whole team instead n based on ur coments we r not getn any signings.Frankly speakn i tink Arsene shd 4get Samba cos he is just an average player.but i leave all 2 wenger 2 do just some gud signings
