Why Wenger should snap up ‘Magic Marin’ this summer

In my opinion, Arsene Wenger should be looking to increase the depth of his midfield with the summer signing of German international Marko Marin.

The 22-year-old, who can play as a winger or an attacking midfielder, moved to current club Werder Bremen from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee of €8.5 million back in 2009.

The 5’7’’ German has earned 16 caps for his country so far, and has had great success at club level.

In 64 Bundersliga matches for Werder Breman, Marin has managed to bag 24 assists and 12 goals – a good record considering his age.

There is no doubt that the German international has the potential (a word most Arsenal fans have grown to hate) to become a great player in the future. In fact, the midfielder has been dubbed the ‘the German Lionel Messi’ within the Bundesliga.

The youngster has something that the Gunners have lacked for a while now – a talented dribbler and someone who is not afraid to take on opposing defenders. Granted, Marin may seem a little selfish on the ball, but in honesty, this is exactly what the Gunners need within their team.

More importantly, the German can cross, score goals, is not afraid to take on defenders, can assist, and is a master of reading the game.

‘Magic Marin’ has two Fritz-Walter medals, one silver in 2006 and one gold in 2007.

However, Arsenal could face competition for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer. Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp, sees Marin as a potential replacement for Modric should the Croatian leave the club.

A month ago, the Evening Standard reported that Marin is currently valued at around £13 million by Werder Breman – a very good price in today’s market, especially for one so talented.

Marin is currently on a £42,000-a-week contract with the German outfit, a wage that even Wenger should be willing to meet.

So, Should Wenger look to Marin this summer?

After Ozil left, it was thought Marin would be able to take his place as Bremen’s play-maker. But…apart from the occasional flashes of quality, he’s not even close to the player Ozil is (or was in the few years he had at Bremen).

Also, looking at his size and build, I can’t see him doing too well in England.

    Not what we need IMO.

Word. He underperformed last year, like the whole team. I am also concerned about his size. Like Messi I don’t believe he will perform well against teams like Stoke or Blackburn. Marin is capable of playing behind the strikers, but he is mainly a winger, who takes people on and nowhere near the level of Özil.

Taarabt is better than Marin, if we lose Nasri and Cesc the only players that come near them are Hazard and Mata, obviously i would say Modric and Schneider but we can forget that.

Lille will accept an offer of Squillaci, Diaby and £10m for Hazard or £23m.

Valencia will accept £22m or £18m plus Vela.

If we would of payed Nasri the 110k a week on the 1st we wouldn’t be going through this right now. His head is obviously turned with the likes of both Manchester clubs offering him 150k+ a week. The board and Arsene need to stop dragging their feet on these deals. Also why aren’t RVP & Walcott’s contracts being extended? They only have 2 years left and with the way things are going we could be going through contract issues all over again next year with our top players…
