Should Arsenal step up their ‘interest’ in this Wigan striker?

According to Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega, Arsenal are amongst several clubs following his progress and would be open to a move, if a deal could be arranged between the Premier League clubs.

Rodallega, who is currently partaking in the Copa America with Colombia, told Argentinean reporters recently:

‘Arsenal are interested in me and this is a club I have always liked.’

‘There are many teams interested, it’s true. Villarreal, Sevilla, Arsenal also have some interest, Everton of England.’

‘There is a lot of speculation but my future at this moment is at Wigan. I have signed for one more year in Wigan but if the club decides on my sale that is no problem if the subject is positive for all parties.’

In my opinion, this is more Rodallega speculating his future, rather than Arsenal expressing an ‘interest’ in him.

I believe it is an effort from the striker to get his name in the press and forcing a sly move away from the DW Stadium, nothing more. However, I cannot see Wigan allowing him to leave, especially with news that Charles N’Zogbia maybe on his way out of the club as well.

I personally don’t see where he would fit in at Arsenal. I couldn’t see him cementing a first-team place at the club, especially after the recent capture of Gervinho. So to be blunt, I don’t think we should step up our alleged interest in the Colombian international.

Rodallega, who netted 9 goals in 36 appearances for The Latics last season, is not a bad striker, just not an Arsenal one in my view.

So, should we step up our supposed interest in the Colombian forward?
