Do Arsenal face ‘the prospect of a battle to stay in the top six’ as Ex-boss claims?

|

‘He has still managed to keep the club in the Champions League places every year and that is some record.’

‘But when it comes to finance the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City now has more cash at their disposal and when it comes to fees and wages, Arsene – and Arsenal – cannot compete. That is the reality.’

‘I don’t think for one minute that the board will lose confidence in him. And I also believe that the hard core of fans understands the problem he is facing.’

‘Arsenal has talented players. Aaron Ramsey is now fit and Jack Wilshere is a special talent. Gifted and with a great attitude. But they still need re-enforcements and to be fair Arsene has bought in Gervinho from France. He may turn out to be an excellent buy and there could well be more to come from Marouane Chamakh in the coming season.’

‘But then Arsene is faced by the problems caused by absences because of the African Cup of Nations next year. That could mean up to six weeks away for Gervinho – who is from the Ivory Coast – and Chamakh, who is Moroccan.’

‘So in so many ways, this could well be the toughest season yet for Arsene.’

‘He has produced great teams playing great football over the years. But with the budget he has, he will do well to be in the top four again.’

‘Salaries and fees are the biggest handicaps he has to face.’

Graham concluded:

‘That is why you have to give him such immense credit for what he has done so far.’

In my opinion, Graham does have a point.

We may not be able to challenge for the Premier League this season, unless something changes at the club. Yes, we have a new great signing in Gervinho, but that won’t be enough to compete with other teams when players go on international duty and when injuries come about in players like Robin van Persie, Marouane Chamakh and Carlos Vela.

What all Arsenal fans fear this coming season is the prospect of not finishing in the top four.

So I ask, would it be better for us to actually win maybe the Champions League, F.A Cup or the Carling Cup and not retain a top four finish?

To be honest, I think I’d prefer winning the Champions League and not finishing in the top four, rather than retaining a top four finish and winning nothing – either way we still play in Europe’s top flight challenge due to our championship status and automatic euro league qualification via domestic cup victory.

The only thing George Graham has the right to say is he created the most boring Arsenal side in history

No We don’t,,,something’s in the air this year. We will win something. Frodo will finally throw the ring into the fires of mount doom and defeat Sauron..

Graham cannot see better than what he is saying because of the element of jealousy in the recess of his mind. Neither Chelsea nor Man United has done incredibly more than us in the transfer market yet. It is also obvious that we have not finished in the transfer market. When people consider Arsenal and transfers, they forget about the fact that Vermualen is like a new signing. They also forget about Frimpong and Ryo Miyaichi. They also forget that our goal keeper situation is a bit more stable than last season. They do not remember that Man U has a new keeper that is yet untested in the premiership. I agree with gunzblasing who says that something is in the air this season.

They also forget that the spotlight is on dodgy officials and the governing bodies of football, so the blatant “help” some teams receive should be reduced this season.
    Or am I just dreaming?

Graham is only expressing his view as a fomer coach but does’t know what wenger is doing behind the scene or does he think wenger enjoys the trophyless years.Remember it was said at the begining of last season that arsenal will loose top four position, you know we were title challenger before the carling cup loss,Graham, not to worry you will see a different squard this season that will blase the trail.Buy wenger should ont keep unwill player

  • Derek says:

I was never impressed with george graham anyway, I well believe arsene wenger could come unstuck, this will all depend on how he manages over the next few weeks in the transfer market, if he strengthens our defense, and they do there home work on set pieces,

if this is done with great judgement and buys players of equal or better as gervinho then I think arsene wenger can come up smelling of roses and could even challenge for the top spot in the premiership and get it!

If you were not impressed by what George Graham did – with such limited resources – you are in need of help. Why not start with Football for beginners ?

  • chris says:

Yes indeed top 6 may be all we can achieve. Its not all bad news though …. Wenger’s obstinacy would finally be blown apart.
