Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna has re-emerged as a potential transfer target for the Gunners this summer, according to sources in Italy.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be looking for reinforcements to strengthen his backline for the upcoming season and 23-year-old Ogbonna, who is best utilized as a centre-back but can also play in the left-back slot, appears to have popped up on the Frenchman’s radar once again.

The Italian Under-21 international, who last month received his first call-up to the senior squad, was first linked with the Emirates outfit almost two years ago and would reportedly command a fee of around £14 million this summer.

To be honest, I wasn’t aware that we had been linked with Ogbonna in the past (slate me if you wish) then again, with all the names linked with our club during a transfer window it’s hard to keep track at times.

There is not much info on the player, only that he stands at 6’2’’, is a centre-back by trade and an Italian of Nigerian descent.

If there are any Serie A/B or Super Eagles fans reading this, please feel free to let the rest of us know whether Ogbonna is over or undervalued at £14 million. Although, I can kind of guess what the majority would say.

For him to have been capped by Italy at senior level shows that he is good and talented. And regarding his link with Arsenal,Aw should sign him up and move on to other targets.

Heard of him….full name: Angelo Zito Ogbonna. Wuz linked with arsenal during d 2009/10 summer transfer window. A decent centre back by every standard(didn’t know he can also double as a left back). It’s always the case every summer transfer window…linked with almost every player on the globe, but ends up with none. We definitely need a LB, this guy is fine but @ £14million? I think it’s a lil above board..if Leighton Baines will come at that price, i would be ok with that.

You know when Arsenal wants a player the price is hacked up because it is well known by other clubs that our Boss is going to offer half the price so why say it is half the price initially when you know the offer you will get from Arsenal will correspondingly be reduced to half? As for the guy,as a Nigerian, I have heard little of him but if he can play for Italy, that means he is good. We need a left back and central defender. If Wenger wants to buy one person for the two positions and Ogbonna is the one, so be it. At least that is one step forward. The price might not be a problem after all, Man U bought Phil Jones for more.

  • Kots says:

Angelo ogbonna is a nigerian/italian who is very strong and mobile defender. The mkt is generally inflated but if he were english am sure he’ll cost 19m. I rate him like cahill at bolton.
