Arsenal have once again been linked with a potential replacement for want-away Cesc Fabregas, this time its Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javier ‘Javi’ Martinez, according to the Daily Star Sunday.
The 22-year-old Spanish midfielder, who bagged 4 goals and an assist in 35 La Liga appearances last season, is valued by the Basque club at around the £15 million mark and has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United in the past.
Martinez, who recently signed a contract extension with the Los Leones until 2016, was a member of Spain’s World Cup winning squad last summer in South Africa and also captained the Under-21 side to glory during the recent European Championships in Denmark.
The 6’3’’ midfielder would make a good addition to the Arsenal squad because for someone so young, Martinez bags a wealth of experience under his belt. However, I don’t feel he is creative enough to replace Fabregas. Besides, his valuation (£15 million) would probably make Wenger’s head spin.

I’d be happy about this to be honest.
I will be very happy if the sorry is true
exactly what we need in the holding position
strong, good at defending set pieces and a decent passer
This would actually be a great signing. Not very confident it will happen but I would be pleased none the less.
gud replacement especially with the wealth of experience he possesses.let fabregas go we want players with club at heart
Only a matter of dayz before we’re linked with all good players in the world, it’s a gud idea though,, with ‘lever-pull’ and ‘spuds’ without scouts, they’l be distracted and not know where to go to. I kno lé professiéur knows exactly who to bring in. It’ll be a splendid season for us gunners. Cheerz!
Replacement for Fab? Isn’t he a DM? Either he way would be a good signing. Give Song some competition…
isn’t it risky to pay a big fee for a spanish, we learned it from antonio reyes and now cesc.
for me its better to get them from the academy for small fee. then it wont be a major loss when they become homesick.
for the same amount jack rodwell can do a better job than this seniorita. and there is also a cheaper option for arsene. a ducth boy called leroy fer, a real steel and will only cost 5 millions.
or he can buy them both jack rodwell and leroy fer are box to box midfielders who can also play in central defender. then sell the midgets, now no more holding up play looking for tricks just direct play. any of these do can be our yaya toure.
Everton will want 25m+ for him. At 13m or so (that’s what’s being reported) Javi would be a better buy IMO. Also not every player is a world class starlet from Catalonia with home sickness… I’m sure we won’t stop buying players from Spain just because of the Cesc “situation” at the moment.
I’d like to sign De Rossi! Play 4-4-2 and De Rossi and Wilshere would be a great partnership! Let Jack be the creative one but I wouldn’t complain if we got Martinez!
All arsen is going to do is sell cesc and play narsi or ramsy on his(cesc) position and no more players coming in allthough we need to sell.
