Where to play Gervinho & why Eboue’s silence is puzzling

It looks increasingly likely that Wenger will make Gervinho his first major signing of the summer, and much has already been written about this Ivorian striker/winger.

Not wanting to cover the same ground necessarily, but wanting to add to the debate, I would like to add some musings and a question or two that I hope you Gooners out there will have a few answers to them.

Whilst I have made my own preference for a returning 4-4-2 system known in previous articles, it would appear that the signing of Gervinho makes this less likely.

He would appear to be a starter for the Ivory Coast, playing on the left of a three man attack with Drogba and Kalou, scoring twice in their most recent African Nations qualifier against Benin.

For Lille, he and Hazard have played either side of Sow in a genuine 4-3-3, which concerns me slightly. My concern stems from the fact that Lille have played with both Gervinho and Hazard as out and out wingers, with three more defensively minded midfielders behind them.

With Arsenal playing Cesc in a more advanced role in the three and expecting the two wide players to defend more, I have no knowledge of Gervinho’s capacity to get back and support the full back.

The question is therefore would be – will he play like Nasri, who tracks back, or will he play like Arshavin, who genuinely has attack on his mind?

If he can play the wide left role in big games, in what effectively becomes a five man midfield, it will be a real bonus for Arsenal – think of the work-rate of Walcott and Nasri in the Chelsea match as a perfect example. If he can do this then I believe he will be an amazing signing as his dribbling ability at speed, his assist ratio, and an obvious eye for goal, easily match that of the frustrating Russian.

what the hell is this.. just transfer rumor, just transfer issue.. when the new quality flayer will come to emirate.. MU, Chelsea, liverpool, man city, spurs even new castle.. they’re already have new player.. how about us? how about arsenal? its suck.. nothing and nothing… suck wenger.. we dont need him anymore…

  • John says:

Thats simply the MANAGER tells him his position is the left side of the attack were Arshivan played last season but point out that his lack of tracking back not only let his teamates down but was the reason the fans turned on him. When we dont have the ball get back and help out???

If he doesnt track back and help the team defend when we havent got the ball… drop him but want we expect of him at Arsenal should be laid out in black and white before he signs up!

I know you probably do it to get more hits but may I suggest getting rid of the “click here to read the rest of the blog” link? It’s frustrating and I never click on it out of principle.

Why doesnt wenger just get the deal done, he said he would be active this window but all i have seen is speculation plus why do we want players that aernt that good, why cant we buy real talent like falcao plus if gervinho is a winger what about nasri arshavin and walcott we will have to many wingers and nasri cant go in to the centre as we will have fabregas wiltshere ramsey all fighting for a place.
wenger is gonna have to start buying soon or we wont stand a chance against chelsea or man united

What you people complaining about transfers that haven’t been sealed, don’t know is the fact that 90% of professional football players are on holiday for 6 weeks and will be back on July 1st or 2nd to seal any tranfer requests.

  • Gooner92 says:

Everyone needs to calm down. There is another 2 months left in the transfer window and people need to remember it’s already been clarified by Ivan that arsenal have spoken to players so wait till July and if there us still no signings then I will join you all in frustration and begin to ask where the signings are.

    • romzisky says:

every new season wenger always promise to sign new quality player.. but nothing..! he just wanna play with media.. its suck im really frustration with all f*cking issue transfer..

  • Arsenal1Again says:

Eboue never speaks anything about the club. Not all players get involved or feel a need to be media whores. He keeps his head down, always does his best after a bit of criticism in the past, he’s very popular among his team-mates who he constantly entertains with his infectuous humour and is out most versatile player. He’s ahuge asset to have and very experienced now. Gervinho IS coming to Arsenal and because Samba is the team captain, it’ll be folly to keep the player chained against his will. Particularly in front of goal and because of his influence in the changeing room – so expect him as well. Both players have said much about their desire to play at Arsenal so there’s that factor to consider too. Oxlade Chamberlain’s father/Agent/Manager and the player himself are both hell-bent on a move to Arsenal. I think when the transfer window opens properly at midnight, June 1st – it will be announced These players have been signed. Wenger likes to unveil multiple players at once, it’s his style. Today is only 23rd June, way too soon to be worrying. The window closes 31st August.

  • pls my fellow gunners fans let just be patient & take heart with our stupid coach,(wenger) the higher shares holder (kronke) & selfish board members, that put their interest ahead of we fans. Take a look at the defending champion MAN UTD av spend 37million pounds on players and we that have not win any silverware 4 the past six season av spend just 1million pounds on unknown player and we now think we can compete with MAN UTD & CHELSEA.. let just 4get till changes come 4rm GOD ALMIGHT.

we asked for signings den we end up scrutinizing where he will be deployed .. if he like like let him play at left back as long as he does a decent job at it would i care ? he was brought to bring drect competiton for places , replace the dead wood we are hoping to offload and to offer stiff competiton and a strong bench … we already have van persie as our point man any1 who can fit in and do a decent job gets my vote
