THREE signings that could catapult Arsenal to silverware next season

Since Arsenal last won a trophy in 2005, seven English clubs have managed to capture glory in a major competition. So what have Arsenal lacked? And who do the Gunners need to sign in order to become winners once again?

Well, here are three players who I think Arsene Wenger should sign in order to bring some much needed silverware back to the North London club:

1. Willian Borges da Silva

The Shakhtar Donetsk superstar, commonly known as Willian, proved vital in Donetsk’s Champions League campaign last season, but where would he fit in at Arsenal?

Arsenal, in recent seasons, have lacked the counter-attacking ability that once left teams in awe, and width has also been a common problem as of late. Last season it was evident that we did not have enough width on the left, Wenger’s tactic to get round this was to place Nasri or Arshavin there in order to the cut in and sit behind Van Persie. Unfortunately, this left Clichy with sole reasonability of defending the left side, which left the Frenchman looking out of place and very much ineffective. So the signing of Willian could free up players like Arshavin or Nasri to play more of a free-role.

It’s been reported that a fee of £12 million plus want-away Denilson could seal the services of Willian this summer.

2. Christopher Samba

Something that has been questioned pretty much non-stop is Arsenal’s weak defence, and rightly so. Last season it was evident that we improved defensively, however, we still lacked an aerial presence in the back-line. Samba is a strong, powerful, and most importantly, a dominating centre-back who more or less carried the Blackburn side last season and could potentially do a great job for the Gunners.

The idea of Vermaelen and Samba in the centre of Arsenal’s defence next season would almost certainly bring fear to opposing attackers – something we have lacked since the 49ers.

It is believed that the Gunners are in for Samba, and could acquire his services for around £9-12 million this summer.

3. Gervinho

The Lille striker played an important role in the team’s double winning season with 15 league goals in 35 league games.

Towards the end of the 2010/2011 season, the Gunners became highly dependent on Dutch international, Robin Van Persie. This resulted with the North London club crashing out of the title race and eventually finishing fourth.

The Ivorian was quoted as saying: ‘To play them [Arsenal] will be the best day of my life and I will do anything to play for Arsenal.’

Gervinho has experience, is a regular goal scorer at a high level, and has the ability the create chances as well. Plus, having another striker alongside Van Persie may reduce the chances of the Dutchman overworking himself and picking up an injury.

Arsenal are inching closer and closer to signing Gervinho for a reported £12 million.
