RVP joins the ‘Wenger spend brigade’

Robin van Persie is the latest Gunner to call upon Arsene Wenger to add to the squad this summer in order for the club to challenge for honours next season, according to Sky Sports.

The Gunners failed to lift any form of silverware last season, despite such a promising start.

The clubs trophy drought now stretches to six-years, and Dutch striker, Robin van Persie, believes that they can not be considered among the favourites for the Premier League title anymore.

However, the 28-year-old forward is confident that the North London club will be able to compete for the domestic title if Wenger acquires players during the summer break:

‘Every year it goes wrong in an identical way and that is frustrating.’

‘When you look at results in the last years, Arsenal shouldn’t be talking about winning the league because too many times that has gone wrong.’

‘Of course the hunger and desire is great but sometimes you have to eat and be realistic.’

‘But I believe with the signing of a number of players, we should be in there competing for the prizes.’

First Samir Nasri, then Theo Walcott, and now Robin ban Persie – surely Wenger must heed their calls.

I, like probably ever Arsenal fan, agree with RVP’s assessment.

Arsenal must acquire a number of players (the right ones of course) this summer in order to challenge for the Premier League title next season. If he doesn’t, then we will be struggling to compete for fourth, especially if our star players depart as well.

Get your cheque book out Wenger and start acquiring us some top notch talent in order to make Arsenal FC great once again…this drought must be stopped.

I am a huge arsene fan so im going to reserve judgment till transfer window closes. But wenger must see that if players like rvp are saying that then he must listen. i know spending 30 million on a player dosnt gaurentee sucsess, but a couple of marqui signings is what the fans and players want, so arsene should bid big. I dont see why they dont get 100 million off usmanov while the financial rules are not in place, he wants to help the club clearly. people will respect arsene more now if he does spend big, ten years ago his experiment would have worked in my opinion. but now the money in the game is go much that Arsenal NEED to compete. arsene can restore his reputation this summer, but i think for the fans and for the players he should outbid his rivals for at least one big player regardless of weather it works out or not, just for morales sake. ARSENE IS THE BEST MANAGER OF ALL TIME. i just hope that his morals about the way he thinks things should be won dont swallow up his chance of sucsess. he has proved he can build a team on peanuts, one that beat and at points outplayed the mighty barca! the only team in the world to do that FACT. with the right signings arsenal will be fantastic next year. Keep the faith peeps, but arsene, take the pressure off yourself and spend as much as you can. Although ive got a fealing that we have already signed a player this season who will be the heart of arsenals midfield for years to come, his name is TORAL! oh yeah and bellerain and myatchi both are world class. COME ON GOONS lets wait till the window shuts b4 judging the great arseneL

Arsene won’t change and he won’t spend. Bargain hunter he always has been, since the days he managed Monaco.

How does spending big on a player means that player is or will be good? Van persie has only said we need to buy,he didn’t say wenger has to spend big. Is it not a shame that the english re trying to force their over hyped players on Arsene? Man IOU ve signed jones for 16mil and re on the verge of signing young for the same amount, two players who re just average players. Unfortunately, that is the kind of deals some arsenal fans want but thank God we ve a manager who is passionate about building a club that will win trophies on a strong financial base. If you re so blind to see what wenger is doing, then jump ship.

i agree with you but do believe that spending big on one player regardless if a sucsess or not, will give moral to the squad and hope for the fans. in my opinion rvp and theo are 2 of the most intelligent people in the squad and if they are saying TO THE PRESS that signings are needed then this is a considered view, not a reaction to losing. wenger should and i believe has listened. Next year will be epic on one way or another. LOSE WENGER LOSE ARSENAL

APART FROM WANTING THREE OR FOUR GOOD QUALITY
PLAYERS,THE MAIN THING WE NEED IS A NEW MANAGER,
ALL WE’VE HEARD FOR THE PAST SIX SEASONS IS
BULL SHIT.SOME OF THE STATEMENTS HE COMES OUT WITH
    ARE JUST STUPID,FOR INSTANCE,”ARSENE PLONKER”
SAID THE CURRENT ARSENAL SQUAD ARE THE BEST TEAM
HE’S EVER HAD,WELL I THINK I KNOW MY FOOTBALL AND
I CARN’T THINK OF ONE PLAYER,THAT WOULD HAVE GOT
IN THE 2004-05 SEASON,I THINK HE’S LOST THE PLOT,
SO I SAY BEFORE IT’S TO LATE,”WENGER OUT SOON”.

There is allegedly 40mil there in the kitty. YOu can get another quality central defender and another back like a Baines. I personally think Gibbs can play on the wing as well. the point is that Arsenal have good midfileders, no depth at center back and could use another striker. I also think that Wenger should vary his attack when teams lay back for them, which is basically what happens now. Two strikers up fron deals with that, and Theo can play off RVP like Hernandez off of Rooney. It is demoralizing when the players see their main rivals investing heavily in proven players. Youth is fine, but we do know there is a lot of luck involved in how they develop ala Denilson. Two years ago he looked on his way, but has stagnated since.

How a man can keep his thoughts and plans so secret even from his own players is amazing.
Wenger never seems to let the guy in his left pocket know what`s in his right. Even RVP is playing the same guessing game as we are.
Chelsea, United and City don`t seem to play the `cloak and dagger` game but then again they can afford to out bid each other. Wenger must wait until these guys have filled their squad quota`s ( i.e. the lion has had it`s fill) then he can move in.

    Robin van Persie,
You’re a plastic fan. Go support Tottenham. Arsene Knows Best.
