Former Gunner Perry Groves believes Arsenal will come up short again next season unless Arsene Wenger dumps his strict transfer policy this summer, according to talkSPORT.

It’s been six long years since the Gunners last tasted silverware, and Groves thinks it is now time for Wenger the splash the cash on established players – not youth stars.

The Englishman recently told Quinny and Saggers on their talkSPORT breakfast show:

‘Arsene Wenger’s policy has to change. For the last three years his policy of developing younger, more mobile, smaller, more technically gifted players hasn’t worked.’

‘Now that Stan Kroenke has come into the club and made it clear there are funds available, Arsene has to go and invest in the team and not buy players with potential. He has to buy players who have got leadership qualities, who are strong characters and can go straight into the first team.’

‘His policy has been to find uncut diamonds and to nurture them and he keeps mentioning the word potential. It’s too late now – we don’t want potential anymore as Arsenal fans.’

I could not agree more with Grovsey.

Whilst it is of course important to sign players for the future, I believe Wenger must now concentrate on the present, or risk being left behind.

I don’t think the Arsenal faithful (well a section of them anyway) will tolerate another trophyless year – I know I won’t. It has come to the point where Wenger must change his transfer policy and acquire us some established players in order to end this ridiculous six-year trophy drought that has been hanging over our heads.

Recent reports suggest that the Frenchman WILL spend £30 million this summer (not enough in my view). However, £14 million or so of it will go towards the Gervinho transfer, which will leave Wenger around £16 million or so to acquire more talent.

Reports claim that the Frenchman is in for one of Chris Samba or Gary Cahill to solidify his defence (knowing Wenger, he will probably go for the one who will cost less), 19-year-old full-back Alexander Milosevic and Internacional’s Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao – not very excitable transfer targets in my opinion.

It’s time for Wenger to splash the cash, and lay off the youth transfers for a while – give the fans what they want this summer Arsene.

I’m surprised at Perry Groves’ remarks AT THE PRESENT TIME. Arsene Wenger has already promised significant changes during the Summer Window.
Disregarding the usual spate of rumoured signings, it is already clear that several bona fide ones are in the pipeline. It should now be left to Wenger to finalise the capture of new blood quietly and behind the scenes.

Arsene has continually deceived the fans in seasons past and we can not allow ourselves to be fooled again,we’ve had enough of his deceit we want change that is evident. Arsene Wenger should get us players that can win trophies and not one’s that will be bullied here n there.
