Cast your mind back 5 years ago, Arsenal signed a then 17-year-old Theo Walcott for an impressive £12 million from Southampton after having a superb season with the Saints.
Now, in 2011, Arsenal are in exactly the same position. However, this time around, the person in question is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – son of Mark Chamberlain, who currently coaches at Portsmouth.
Mark Chamberlain believes it’s in his son’s best interest to follow in the footsteps of Theo Walcott and join Arsenal in the near future. He was quoted on Sky Sports saying:
‘To develop at a place like Arsenal can’t be a bad thing. In my eyes, I’d like to see him go there as soon as possible, and continue his development.’
So, is the Saints winger any good?
Chamberlain managed to bag 9 goals in 36 appearances for Southampton this season, an impressive total considering his young age.
The winger has already had some experience at England Under-18 and Under-21 level, and I personally believe that he will follow in Theo’s footsteps given the right motivation, environment and time.
Obviously any approach from Arsenal will be closely monitored, as it would share the same similarities as the signing of Theo Walcott 5 years ago.
Obviously it is too early to tell if he is going to develop into a fantastic player, but I personally believe that Arsenal should try and nab Alex Chamberlain as he could potentially be a big star in the future. Also for the fact that Theo Walcott, who has been there and done that as it were, can teach and influence Alex on how to handle the pressure at Arsenal.
Chamberlain is certainly an exciting prospect for the future, and I think with the signings of two more Barcelona starlets (Jon Toral Miguel Harper and Hector Bellerin) the potential acquisition of the Southampton winger can only be a good thing for the North London club.

What kind of player is he? Has anyone watched him play in a match?
I’ve heard him compared to Theo (presumably because he comes from Southampton) but he looks a little stronger built.
I have to agree with you he does look stronger build, I haven’t had an opportunity to see him play only what i’ve seen online but he seems to be very capable on the ball.
Just noticed the video isn’t working on the article I will see if I can get that resolved

i agree, realist.
I don’t really know too much about Chamberlain. I have heard good things but he played in league 1 last season and we all know the premiership is far better. I personally think we need players who are ready made not future players.
