Can this midfielder be regarded as an Arsenal legend?

|

Some (Denilson in particular) have stated that Cesc has failed to inspire as a captain. So, does he merit a status that has been bestowed on the likes of Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Denis Bergkamp and Tony Adams to name a few?

The fact that he has become one of the worlds best before he has even turned 25 deserves a lot of credit.

Arsenal’s style of football has won many admirers in the past few years and Fabregas is the main architect of our beautiful football. His talents were never in doubt, but when he became a first-team regular at the age of just 19, questions were bound to be asked. His response was overwhelming. Gifted with wonderful technique and vision, he used his strengths to optimum effect. His creativity, passing ability and flair silenced his critics who had doubted whether his small body stature would survive a league that was based on speed and physicality. In his almost nine years at Arsenal, he has grown to become the best midfielder in the English game. The way he controls the game with such ease is just a joy to watch.

Cesc played a major role in our run to the Champions League final in 2006. His thirty yard strike that silenced the San Siro is a part of Arsenal folklore – Not to forget how he and Arsenal brought down the Galacticos of Real Madrid in their own den. The standing ovation he received from the packed Santiago Bernabeu is something very few visiting players are given.

Having become the club captain at just 21-years-old in 2008, his performances never dropped in spite of huge expectations. Leading a team as big as Arsenal is challenging in itself, but to lead a team of players with an average age of around 23 is not an easy task. With Arsenal’s continuing trophy drought, as skipper, Fabregas has come under fire, but his commitment to the club should never be questioned. He scored Arsenal’s equalizing penalty at the Emirates against Barcelona in 2009 with a broken foot! You can’t ask for much more.

Cesc can’t be compared with say Vieira … different sort of player. But YES …. a great young creative player he is as good as Liam Brady – who also left the club in his prime. Cesc has also given 100% for the Arsenal. He does care very much.

RVP is a legend but not Cesc. RVP truly loves this club and has worked on youth projects with bergkamp in the london area. That shows a certain level of commitment for me. Cesc has no attachments really and i dont think he wants anything that holds him here; he cannot be a legend simply because Arsenal isnt his number 1 club, barca is. When you are still at Arsenal and you always put a club who didnt think you would amount to much and who still think that u are “worth less”/worthless xD than Villa who wasnt born in Catalonia then u cannot in my book be regarded as a legend.

Legends are ususally made up by old blokes like me who are more comfortable with the days when they were in their prime. With the ridiculous salaries players today get it`s hard to cast any one of them in the mould of `a legend`. “Now when I was a lad” haha!
