Why Wenger should focus more on experience rather than youth this summer

|

It has been reported today that Arsenal are planning yet another raid on Barcelona, this time for 16-year-old Hector Bellerin, who has recently announced that he is ready to leave the Catalan club. However, Arsenal face stiff competition for his signature, as Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa are all said to be interested in the youngster as well.

The potential move is likely to deteriorate an already strained relationship between the two clubs, with Barcelona still furious over losing Cesc Fabregas eight years ago.

Arsenal already have a high number of youngsters at the club, which has left some fans beginning to question whether the club really need to acquire any more. A majority of the Arsenal faithful believe Arsene Wenger should be focusing more on experienced players this summer after another frustrating season, and I certainly amongst this contingent.

But I think if Arsenal have the ability to sign youth stars then they should continue doing so. However, realistically, we do need some experience in our squad in order to get the balance right. I am almost certain that we will lose a number of players during the summer break, and their replacements will need to be of a high quality.

Do not believe everything that you read about Arsenal having limited cash, because the fact is, and I truly believe this, is that if Wenger wanted to spend £100 million then the funds would be handed over to him in a flash. It’s just that Wenger holds his cards close to his chest and will refuse to pay over the amount what the player is worth, as he has seen this happen to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in recent years.

I am pretty sure Wenger knows that Arsenal fans will simply not tolerate or accept another trophyless season, and will do everything possible to ensure that the right players are brought in to give us every chance to succeed.

Nonetheless, if Wenger wishes to acquire Hector Bellerin, who can be deployed as a winger or striker, then so be it. Let’s just hope acquiring youths isn’t the main order of business this summer for Arsenal.

though i agree with most of what you say, i don’t agree with you that the arsenal, would willing hand over 100million pounds to spend on players.
why? because the arsenal board have never allowed thier managers to spend loads of money, only david dein allowed the manager (wenger) to spend money and what signings wenger made.
but for that money dein had to fight tooth and nail for that money, that why dein was forced out of the club by hill wood, fitzman and co.
i think with people like hillwood a banker from the old school, he rightly or wrongly doesn’t like to splash the cash, and i believe you will find kronke will be the same, have we heard him say he will make money available to wenger ? have we heard him say he wants arsenal to win the league or champions league, like the man city owners or chelseas and liverpools ownwers?
do anyone believe kronke has any will interest in arsenal apart from profits he will make.
where as usmanov though looks like something out of the russian mafia, openly supports arsenal openly wants to spend money on the squad, openly wants huge success at arsenal.
this and not wenger is the problems we have at arsenal , wenger wants and i believe would buy big, like when he had dein behind him,but the current board will continue to tighten the purse, on buying players, we may see one,or two more mature players arrive but will they be the players wenger really wants? i seriouly doubt it.

The reason I put that in is because I think there are going to be a few changes at Arsenal over the summer (obviously my opinion) and I think we will see Arsenal with a large amount of cash to spend.

I understand your point of view with it not happening before but now the fans are making it known that we aren’t happy at the emirates I think the board will realise some things need to change or they risk upsetting the fans even more.

He may be talented and a bright prospect for the future, but do we really need another player for the future. I am fed up with Wenger and his policy, just go and buy some experienced and talented players you tight fisted git. There are so many quality players out there but he doesn’t want to spend the monay for them, just spend or trust me when I say this we won’t make top for next season.

Enough with the youth development program at Arsenal. It is a failed experiment as we have seen this team have a horrific run in the last 14 games. Yes we need to look at the future but this team needs a major overhaul.

Need a solid experienced defender, leaders and players with grit and mental toughness, and another potent striker who wants to win at all costs.

How Myopic can you get? Arsenal’s youth development program is among the best of the world!!! They have so many talented youths, fabregas, van persie, wilshere, walcott, ramsey, djorou, clichy, sagna, song, and the yet unproven bartley are all testament to Arsene Wenger’s superb player development. The problem is not the youth themselves, the problem is that Arsenal let their experienced players leave the club, if the likes of campbell and viera had stayed (just like scholes and giggs for united) the squad would have benefitted so much more. IMO the youth policy is perfect, as long as Wenger can balance it with some experienced leaders.
