What positives can Arsenal take away from this season?

|

Theo Walcott – I thought long and hard about putting Theo in the list, however, I stand by my decision. This season the speedy winger has certainly silenced his critics. His touch has been remarkable and his pace has been used to great effect by notching up some brilliant goals and assists for Arsenal. Scoring 12 goals in 36 appearances in total this season, Walcott certainly managed to hold down the fort whilst Robin van Persie was sidelined.

So, there we have it. We have three players that in my view have improved and performed brilliantly this season and have something to build on. We have also seen Robin van Persie return from injury with a huge bang and breaking the Premier League record for goals scored in consecutive away fixtures with 8 so far. We can also take away the fact that we were the only team in Europe to beat Barcelona this season.

Let’s not forget, and this one is perhaps the most important one of all that should hold a special place in every Arsenal fans heart, that come the 22nd of May, at approximately 5pm, everyone across the globe will once again see Arsenal finishing above Tottenham.

We do have a lot to take away from this season’s campaign, despite another trophyless year. However, I believe if Arsene Wenger brings in a few new faces to the squad this summer, and the players listed above (along with others) stay committed to the club, then we can break our duck next season.

Every Gooner out there should believe in this club and its beliefs. Instead of protesting against Wenger, let’s get behind him and believe that he can bring back the glory days to Arsenal.

Let’s make sure from the opening day of next season that we let every single team in the Premier League know that ‘we are Arsenal and this year the title is ours!’

I also think that another positive this season has been Wojciech Szczesny. I honestly think he is gonna be a world class goalie!

Good point Stu, it was good to see Szczesny come of age and Fabianski get a run of games without errors as well. The return of Aaron Ramsey is no bad thing either.

And also on table, we are on top. We did well conceded 4 n score 7 goals

Plenty of positives given that we played like plonkers on several occasions & have still have maintained our Champions League status. Lets not forget that this is the second season now at the start of which we were tipped as the team to drop out of the top 4.

These players have been positive for us this season, I also think Szczesny has also been a massive positive. But the main disappointment for me is the lack of silverware and how our team crumbled in the last 2 months of the season, we seriously shot ourselves in the foot this season. Lets just hope we get top three so we don’t have to qualify for the champions league next season.

I completley agree with you guys about Szczesny I am so glad that he has had a run of games this season he has proved himself and He will be a great keeper to come.

When I wrote the article I picked 3 players in my mind that stood out for me. The beauty of writing is that you guys have your own views about who stood out and what the players mean to you that is the important bit I will never tell you what to think or what is right I will give my opinion some you will agree with some you may not do.

If there is something you don’t agree on then I am approachable put your view down

    wilshere
    Nasri
    walcott
    sczesny
    Kosser(yes, in my opinion)

  • Where as I do agree with your points Iain, we have missed another breakout star from the youth team in Emmanuel Frimpong who as a defensive midfielder would be the ideal starter along side long time team mate Jack Wilshire as well as first choice centre back Thomas Vermaelen. With these 2 fit and another big vocal centre back I believe the season would of ended on a much better note.
The one other thing I believe is it is time to get rid of the “deadwood” these are the players who haven’t quite made it or are too inconsistant. Remove Denilson, Bendtner, Arshavin, Diaby, Sqillaci, Rosicky, Clichy (if he doesn’t sign a new contract). By bringing in a few experience players in defence like Mertesacker or Samba or Cahill & another striker to bear the load with RVP also bringing in youth like Conor Henderson & Ignasi Miquel then not only do I believe we will win trophys but we will start getting back to the invincible team we once were. Not that it will ever be repeated.

Looking back to last august, if you’d told me Arsenal would beat chelsea, ManU and Barcelona this year, I would have figured us for at a double. That we sit here, a year older but in the exact same position table-wise, is disappointing. Anyone who tries to say otherwise is not being true to themselves.

The frustrating thing is that Arsenal seem to have traded one set of problems for a different set. And while some players have progressed, some have regressed. At the end your left with a season that is at best a push.

WHEN WILL WENGER SEE THAT BECAUSE OF HE’S LACK OF GOOD TRANSFERS IN THE LAST 4 YEARS WE NOW NEED TO SPEND ABOUT 100 MILLION TO REALLY SORT OUT OUR TEAM BUT HIM AND THE MONEY GRABBING ARSENAL BOARD WILL TRY NOT TO. THEY ARE TIGHT. I LOVE ARSENAL FOOTBALL SINCE 1992. I MISS TONY.LEE.MARTIN.RAY.STEVE.IAN PAUL SEAMAN AND PAUL MERSON.

  • Steve says:

O shane, agreed, the next manager will have a right mess to fix, though he should have ample funds to do so.
