Should this England midfielder top Arsenal’s wish list this summer?

|

Scott Parker picked up his Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award on Thursday, but last night stated that his future could possibly lie away from West Ham depending on whether they are relegated or not come the end of the season.

This recent news will no doubt alert a number of Premier League clubs who would be interested in the midfielder’s services. Arsenal, along with Tottenham and Liverpool, are thought to be amongst the teams chasing the 30-year-old. However, the Gunners appear to have a slight edge over their rivals, this being Champions League football.

It is thought that Champions League football would be a huge bonus for Parker because at the age of 30, he will not have a lot of opportunities to do so.

In my view Scott Parker would be a welcome signing for The Gunners, and would give Arsenal a strong-minded and, more importantly, an experienced midfielder amongst their ranks. I also feel that Scott Parker could be a good candidate for club Captain due to his experience, leadership and tenacity. Obviously Arsenal already have captain fantastic Cesc Fabregas, but with his future at Arsenal certainly going to be questioned throughout the summer break, I feel that it is only a matter of time before he is prised away from The Emirates (a move which I would hate to happen by the way).

Arsenal desperately need to bring in some experience players this summer in order to mix with the youth of the side, and I personally feel that it would help the younger players develop having players with knowledge of the game along side them.

Scott Parker’s future at West Ham will be decided tomorrow afternoon when the Hammers take on Wigan in what is the penultimate game for both clubs, a loss for either would surely see them relegated to the Championship. However, realistically, they are hoping for other results to go their way.

Arsene Wenger has conceded that he may well dive into the transfer market this summer in a bid to revive the Gunners and put an end to Arsenal’s long trophy drought. Scott Parker could be just the player that the North London club need, and I think that with West Ham possibly losing out on the revenue the Premier League brings, I would not only expect Parker to be the only one leaving the club. The England international has been a talisman for the East London club this season, and there position in the league does not reflect the quality of the players at West Ham, who have endured a horrible season.

If Scott Parker makes the decision to leave West Ham this summer then I think Arsenal should do everything within their power to bring him to the Emirates, as I believe we are the best equipped side to accommodate his needs. However, in order to do this we need to realise that if we want to improve as a club and put an end to the trophy drought, then we are going to have to change things and start splashing the cash.

we need to sign him alongside young and samba. walcott needs to go upfront!

  • Vivek says:

Can you please tell me how much he will cost us. Signing a 30 year old for too big a sum might not be good. If he comes at a reasonable price we’ve got to get him. As you said experience is the answer to our problems.

Ithink that Scott Parker would be a good addition to the squad. However i do not think that Arsene Wegner would be too keen on signing a thirty year old player. If Wegner sticks to his principles then presumably he would only offer him a one year contract. There is a much better option available to Wegner, that is if the Club has the courage to do it,sign Joey Barton, yes Joey Barton,he would in my opinion solve most of Arsenal’s current Midfield problems.

I think Joey Barton is a good suggestion.I have also heard that he is trying to make up for what he did in the past by signing a manager who has experience in the music industry. Also,I think he did well(and behaved well as well) in the past 2 years. So I think it is a good option.Newcastle may might want to sell him as it seems that he may not sign a new contract with them.

  • GUL says:

But we all know it is wishful thinking, we still hav world beaters lik denilson and diaby

  • Bobby says:

I think he should sign him, he is a quality and passinate player. You can see that he gives his all for any club he plays for, and I think more importantly he is Englsih and I think Arsenal do lack some English grit.

  • Brendan says:

Arsenal need some grit, simple as that. Gary Cahill and Scott Parker are two must sign players for us in the summer, we sorely miss vieira, Campbell, keown and dare I say it Ashley cole. We crumble at the same stage every season because our players, bar a few (wilshere, vermaelen, rvp) lack that winning mentality and fighting spirit. Personally I believe that the lack of goals comes from us losing leads so easily, no-one seems to want to take charge or have a gamble at goal. it needs to change and it starts with wenger, a few new faces in and some awful ones out is just what we need.
