Is this German centre-back the answer to Arsenal’s defensive woes?

|

Stuttgart centre-back Serdar Tasci is the latest high-profile defender to be linked with a move to Arsenal. However, the Gunners will face stiff competition from Italian giants Juventus and La Liga outfit Sevilla for the German’s signature this summer.

The North London club were linked with the German international throughout last summers transfer period, after Tasci put in a string of impressive performances for the German national side at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa last summer. However, the 24-year-old was forced to remain in Stuttgart after the Gunners opted to move for French duo Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci.

But reports in Germany suggest that the Gunners have reignited their interest in the defender, who is under contract with the Bundersliga side until 2014 and is valued at around £10 million.

Tasci’s agent, Maurizio Gaudino, has opened the door for a potential move to Arsenal during the summer. According to talkSPORT, Gaudino said:

‘There are important foreign teams that follow the player, but still there is nothing concrete.’

This season has been a disappointment, and many Arsenal fans believe that it is down to the inconsistency shown in the back-line.

The partnership of Koscielny and Djourou has looked frail at the best of times and Squillaci is our only reserve centre-back at present, which is worrying for a team trying to break a six-year trophy drought.

A centre-back of Serdar Tasci’s experience and calibre will undoubtedly be welcomed at Arsenal as they look to give their back-line a summer makeover. However, whether they are prepared to splash out the valuation for the German this summer will be interesting to see.

I don’t really know too much about this player so I can’t really judge him. All I’d have to say is would we be taking a gamble on him. If so we don’t need him, we need more experienced players to solidify the defence.
