A case of Deja vu as Wenger claims Arsenal must become more ‘ruthless’

|

We need to be more ‘ruthless’, we need better ‘concentration’, we lack ‘commitment’ against the smaller clubs – this is all that we have been hearing from Arsene Wenger over the past couple seasons, which has left many Arsenal fans wondering if they are in fact living in Deja vu. Earlier this week, the Gunners chief told Arsenal TV Online:

‘We were not able to dominate in the lesser games. We were not ruthless enough and put ourselves into a bad position, which was a little bit the story of the season.’

‘Away from home we did well, against the big teams at home we did well, but in the smaller games we would not raise our level of concentration to be ruthless enough. Disappointments have been added to disappointments and it is difficult to fight against that.’

We have listened to these same excuses year in and year out about how we need to do things differently. However, on paper, we haven’t actually done that – this is only too evident in the Carling Cup final against Birmingham City where we were favourites to win. Arsenal have not yet recovered from that game, winning only 3 games out of the last 13 in all competitions, which obviously, ended all chances of any silverware this season.

I do have belief in Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, so it is hard for me to write anything negative about the club that I have supported for almost 31 years. I think that the team (without injuries) are good enough to win the Premier League. However, we all know that the Premier League doesn’t work like that. Again this season we have seen injuries plague the Arsenal side and it points out that, although with a fully fit team we can win the games, with injuries to a few players we are extremely disappointing.

In my view, it is time for Wenger to work some transfer magic, and if that means we lose a couple of players then so be it. But we need to acquire players; we need to rebuild the squad. The squad has to be built around the likes of Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie and Wojciech Szczesny. I think Cesc Fabregas is a fantastic player, but I think the club need a new leader, someone like a Patrick Vieira or Tony Adams. It really pains me to say this but, I don’t think Cesc Fabregas will stay this summer…I hope I am proven wrong.

If Wenger wants Arsenal to be more ‘ruthless’ as he claims, then he needs to spend and bring in a mixture of experience and youth to fill the holes in the squad. We need to be in the market for some quality players, and as I stated earlier, we need to see some magic from the professor, who needs to restore faith in the squad and get the fans back on his side.

Arsenal are the team we all love to watch. However, we want to see them score more and concede less. At times this season we have been breathtaking, but there have been times where we have been extremely disappointing and that needs to end. We need big players to be brought in this summer to get the balance just right.

I fed up with him saying this, the fact is he is too friendly with his players and he needs to be more ruthless with them by telling them to pull their fingers out. Why do you think Sir Alex Ferguson is so successful, do you think he tells his players when there playing crap that there brilliant, no! he tells it like it is and that’s how it should be. What ever your occupation, nobody likes there manager and that’s how it should be with Wenger and his players.

Also Wenger needs to buy players, some of the current players are not could enough and need to be sold so quality players can come in. He does this I guran-damn-tee, we’ll win a trophy next season.
