Why Arsene Wenger’s philosophy deserves respect

|

Arsene Wenger has come under a lot of criticism in the last couple of months. This is not at all justifiable. Arsene has been the architect of the most glorious days of Arsenal FC and has overseen the smooth move to the new state of the art Emirates Stadium without any harm to the club and its stability.

Without any doubt the last two months have been extremely torturous for the club. The dream of winning a monumental quadruple crumbled before our very eyes within a fortnight. Add to that the three extremely disappointing draws against Sunderland, West Brom, Blackburn, Liverpool and just recently Spurs, the ‘so near yet so far’ theme that has been the feature of our seasons in the past is coming back to haunt the club, its players and its fans. One can’t simply blame Wenger for this or his philosophy.

Our move to the Emirates put the club under a huge debt. To make sure that club does not become unstable and debt-ridden like Liverpool and Manchester United, Wenger adopted a strict transfer policy that laid a lot of emphasis on youth and the Arsenal academy.

Wenger’s teams have always been a delight to watch with their attacking football. The Frenchman has always preached the need for precise passing and good off the ball movement. The efforts that were put in to improve our academy are starting to bear fruit.

The emergences of Jack Wilshere, Johan Djourou and Wojciech Szczsney into important first team starters strongly reinforce the case. Also there is Wenger’s ability to judge young talent and his wide scouting network. Players have been brought into the club at a very young age and are made to grow into exciting players. They learn about the great history and success of this club. Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie and Alex Song are some examples of this.

The best thing about Wenger and his philosophy is the confidence and trust he has in his youngsters. After two indifferent years, Samir Nasri is starting to repay Wenger’s faith in him by putting in some amazing performances this season.

Undoubtedly, Wenger’s policy has given financial stability to the club. It has also given him a group of players with which he can build a team that can be world beaters. But his team is not complete by any means. Even the extraordinary talent produced by Barcelona’s famous academy is not good enough to build a great team. Barcelona have spent almost £150 million in the last few years on strikers alone. Their academy products like Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Pedro and so on, had to be complemented by the likes Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Villa for them to be successful.

That is what I am saying here. Arsene needs to spend some money to complete his squad in order to justify his philosophy. It does not mean we have to splash the cash like Man City or Chelsea have done.

this season Arsenal has been phenomenon. I dnt care how many thnk otherwise. Yes, we might lose al 4 cups @ da end of the season, bt i wil neva put da blame on Wenger n his men. The Fans, the supporters…, these are a group of people who hav led the team down most. >Carling Cup, 1st trophy we had a chance to go n lift afta half a decate, instead of liftin off da pressure of the boys we mounted it, we celebrated victory b4 da match.
Our boys faild to bring da trophy, u can imagine da guilt they felt. Since then we pointed this n that, chopping heads, from Wenger to Denilson, waiting 4 our “typical” Arsenal to fail us. We as fans failed Arsenal n if u thnk da team faild to deliver u failed to support n encourage them forward. On Wenger’s philosophy, i jst hope he keeps on his principles, sell responsibly (rosicky, eboue, diaby, nik bendtner out) (denilson, stil has a chance to be betta esp wit ramsey bein a threat he shuld stay) (vela shuld stay…, give other loanees a chance) in da gk department if jens doesnt stay to mentor shizza n fabiansky then make move 4 shwarzer. Players i’d lov 2 c @ da emirates. Hazard,M’Villa, Sakho, Chamberlain nd da olda alcantera

exceptionally poor blog and not because i disagree ….

only a fool would assume ‘. It does not mean we have to splash the cash like Man City or Chelsea have done’.

first of all thats impossible. think carefully about what you wrote again. this is a public forum and you are printing in that forum so expect flack for stating things that are so inaccurate.

second wengers philosophy is flawed even with out any spending at all – mental weakness of team, no plan b, team of tiny tots, team that simply cant defend a lead. this is his system and his team.

We are done with the blind loyalty to Wenger’s unbalanced experiment. His time is up. The board should show him the door and bring in Rjikaard. We are done with these meaningless excuses. The players have lost faith in his philosophy, so have the fans and club directors that are not under his spell. Wenger, strangely enough, reminds me of third world country dictators. The one common theme about dictators, is that they somehow convince people that their countries can not continue without them. That all hell will break loose without them. They also seem to have strange powers to attract blind loyalty. Arsenal is a great club that will do just fine without Wenger’s gross incompetence. I can not help but laugh when I read comments from Arsenal supporters who believe that the club will disintegrate without Wenger. The club is greater than one man. Wake up from your slumber and demand the ouster of Wenger. Football is the beautiful game, there is no need for Arsenal fans to endure the bitter after taste season after season because of one dictator who wants to do things his way. Anybody with basic Football knowledge has known for years that Arsenal needs a world class goalkeeper, centre-half and defensive midfielder. What does Wenger think: Well… we will stick to our philosophy. This is suicidal and those around him are running for the hills as they know the club will win no trophies with this man at the helm. Shareholders sold their shares, the Captain wants out, the Assistant Manager wants out and true arsenal supporters want Wenger to go. The club will be just fine and do well. After all, it was David Dein, not Wenger, who made Arsenal to tick during the glory years by sanctioning inspirational deals such as the one the brought Sol Cambell to Highbury.

Everyone may like his philosophy but where does it get us, in the last 5 coming to 6 years we have done nothing. There is no more excuses we have money and if he doesn’t spend it then we know who to blame next season if he doesn’t win anything. I think if he doesn’t win anything next season then he has yo go.
