Why Arsenal fans MUST restrain themselves from protesting

|

There is a gathering momentum for a section of fans to demonstrate their unhappiness with Arsene Wenger and the club before the Aston Villa game, the last game of the season. This would be a gigantic miscalculation and have a very negative effect and lead to open divisions and possible crowd disturbances.

The end of season home game is one usually associated with thanking the players and the club for all of their efforts during the season. It is usually conducted with good humour and a fancy dress atmosphere. I acknowledge that there are divisions within the club at the moment, and there are many who feel that neither Arsene Wenger or the Club are showing any signs of regret or an intention of changing the status quo. But to exaggerate the extent of that unhappiness is to play into the hands of those who hate Arsenal Football Club anyway. But it must be serious indeed when the usual anti-Wenger blog sites stop bashing AKBs and join the AST. The problem I have with with sinners repenting is that longstanding Wenger loyalists like me will suspect their real motives, and recall the saying ‘you can’t make a silk purse out of a pig’s ear’

Having said all of that, I suppose I can grudgingly accept any attempts at encouraging fan unity, even if the statements appear insincere by their lukewarm presentation. So I am not asking fans ‘if they are going to protest’ I prefer to take the strident approach and I am calling for WHOAG or whoever they purport to be, NOT to protest in such a public manner in the interests of Arsenal Football Club, True Arsenal fans and in the interests of public order. To ignore my plea will only serve those sections of the media and tabloid press who hate Arsenal. Why give the impression of a terminal crisis when you have not heard the intended solutions? Yes there is unhappiness at the prospect of rising season ticket prices. Yes there is unhappiness at the final results of the club. But to suggest that Arsene Wenger, Ivan Gazidis and Stan Kroenke are unaware of this, and need a public protest to bring it to their attention is just plain silly.

Arsenal Football club has a proud heritage and many support us because we do things ‘The Arsenal Way’ The Metropolitan Police themselves acknowledge that Arsenal fans are some of the best behaved fans in the Capital, so why on earth should we damage our hard earned reputations. I would also ask that there be no rival march in support of Arsene Wenger, as this would be adding fuel to an already overcharged atmosphere. Remember that if you do decide to protest that it will be unfair to the players who have tried to deliver over the long season, and have suffered physical injury in playing for your club, they have also been victim to the unfairness of the FA and its inconsistent officials. Remember that at worst we will finish third in the Premier League, with Champions League football assured for next season. Feed your protests through the fan groups like AISA, Red Action, AST and The Press department at the Club.

You can all be reassured that solutions will be put in place, I understand that plans are being laid to bring in new players and that changes to the coaching staff are being actively considered. So again we must be patient, Arsenal Football Club’s official site will update the fans with statements from Arsene Wenger and of course he will make his plans known to Arsenal TV online. What is clear, is that the unhappiness that many of you feel is not falling on deaf ears. Remember who you are and what club you represent, we are not West Ham, Spurs, Millwall or Chelsea. We are the Pride of London, the number one club, the ARSENAL FFS!

ARSENAL ‘TIL I DIE…ARE YOU?

Too right, these people are just throwing their toys out the pram and would only be doing harm to our great club.

I think the numbers will be very low on this. Most of the whingers dont even go to games.

Anyone singing ‘Wenger out’ in the stadium better prepare themselves for war. For every moran having a go at him at the stadium there are 10 real gooners who would fight to the death for the man and all he has done for our club

  • Steve says:

Do you work for Arsenal by any chance? As far as I am aware the WHOAG march is intended to be a peaceful march, why does there need to be any disorder? As you rightly state The Arsenal have a proud heritage, something that the current board/management seem to be completely unaware of.

could not agree with u more……just demonstrate the fans anguish over the status quo…..we r not vandalising anything!!!!

  • Dan Attah says:

i think wenger is one of the best coach in the game, but the fans needs result and trophies for all the tickets.wenger,we need quality players, who thought gunner would loose the carlings cup to birmigham.

  • A protest against Wenger, would not necessarily mean a protest against Arsenal players nor will it damage our reputations as well behaved fans. We appreciate the players efforts, commitments and so forth. Although I have been a massive fan of Mr wenger I now contend that his time is up. The Arsenal board need to take into consideration the cry of us Fans. I want Wenger to go because his reluctant ways will prevail and his stubborn outlook will deteriate the whole team. If Wenger Can garauntee a change in transfer policies than albeit stay. Otherwise we need to move on and begin a fresh era.
    Arsenal till I die!!!!

I cannot agree more with dan attah. We need trophies, we cannot pretend that all is well. There’s something fundamentally wrong with mr Wenger’s approach to games

tbh i hope there is a little unrest, this seasons results reflect the support the team get. we are among the worst supporters in the premiership. the stadium is full of whining tourist who don’t support the club, who are these wanna bes that arrive late, hang out in the concourse until 10 minutes into thwe second half and then walk out ten minutes before the end, it’s an embarrasment. at the Leeds FA cup game i was depressed at how out sung we were, the stadium smells of corporate disinterest. let’s have a bit of upset, maybe the part time tourist will choke on their pies and bugger off ofr good, leave the stadium to the true honest supporter.

  • Omar says:

Great article, you stated your opinion clearly…. I am not fully with the protest if it’s going to happen, but it’s understandable…. many fans are fed up.

    Cheers and take care,

Hadley making veiled threats to any paying Arsenal fans asking legitimate questions about Wenger’s management of the team – how pathetic of an AKB!

  • Charlie says:

I’ll never understand this. The club has never had a better manager, a fact proven by silverware even if you ignore the youth system and the stadium. What makes any of you think that we’ll replace the most successful ever manager with a more successful one ? It is delusional thinking in the extreme. He made terrible choices in the transfer market last summer, i think he’d admit that he got it wrong. This is the same man that signed Henry, Vieira, Fabregas, Van Persie, Pires, Nasri……need i go on ? You can’t say that he doesn’t know how to spot talent but everyone makes mistakes.
