Where do Arsenal go from here?

|

Saturday’s goalless draw against Blackburn shall surely prove to be the final nail in the coffin of Arsenal’s title challenge. An insipid display essentially means that Manchester United can afford to lose at the Emirates whilst still winning the title. But there will be questions to what Arsenal should do now, in regard to the end of the season. Their position is not safe yet.

Next weekend against Blackpool will be an absolutely pivotal game. Should Arsenal lose it, then they shall officially be in crisis and at a severe risk of losing out on second place, it could get as bad as having to look over their shoulder with Spurs and Man City waiting in the wings. The run-in is not a friendly one; whilst games at home against Liverpool and Aston Villa should not be as tough as they have been in recent seasons, when bereft of confidence, they could well prove difficult. Away games against Stoke and Bolton are hardly gifts either.

But it is this period which shall be of great importance for future seasons. Various squad members will be playing for their futures at the club; whilst some are assured Abou Diaby, Denilson, Nicklas Bendtner and Sebastien Squillaci shall all be competing to stay at the club next season. It seems inevitable that the patience of Arsene Wenger is close to collapse – some heads will roll this summer and the final games of this season will probably determine who is for the chop. The problem is that Wenger has not got an opportunity to throw them all in to see who sinks and who swims because the games to come are not walkovers and points have to be won.

All is not lost for this season though. There has to be a maturity and a professionalism shown by the players, just out of respect for the match-goers more than anything. There is much dissent among those who attend the games and the poor atmosphere in the ground has begun to impact upon the players on the pitch. So much of momentum in football depends on the attitude and positivity of the supporters, and unless this changes things are not going to get any better.

Arsenal are now at 5/1 to be crowned Premier League champions

Beating Blackpool this Sunday will be vital to getting the fans back on their side, and to ensure that the race for second is back on track. In terms of actual position, second or third is not really of much importance, but it will be for Arsenal. Second not only shows improvement in terms of finish, but it will show a desire to actually do as well as possible and to repay the supporters.

This is season ticket renewal time at Arsenal, and it could not have come at a worse time for the club. The supporters are disaffected, and cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel yet. There is still time to change that though, and approximately five wins from seven along with a positive transfer window this summer could well reverse the current malaise.

Arsenal are finished, no way will they be crowned champions. They will drop more points, best we can hope for is 2nd place, even third if we’re not careful.

Forget title, where not going to win anything, Arsenal are the best team when it comes to losing, we are rubbish and don’t deserve to win the title.
